The Jewel Pen Co.

A friend showed me his English made "Jewel" pen, a marbled blue No.58 with a 14ct Jewel nib and a lolly pop lever (reminded me of Conway Stewart from the '40/50's so suspect it's that era). The overall quality said to me high 2nd tier but am wondering if anybody knows much about this manufacturer.

Hugh

Thanks Esterbex,

You found a lot more than I did!! The one in the ebay link looks a real 3rd tier job, I guess this is just another small manufacturer that has little info. remaining.

Regards

Hugh

I think you will find there was more than one Jewel Pen Co, possibly two in the UK, and your London one had no link with the Japanese company mentioned in the link above.

I had a very large pen form the company you refer to, which also had a massive bullion bar of a nib.( It was sold on to an FPN member, so he might be able to provide more info.). From what I recall it was a very mediocre pen, notable only for its size.

The company, and a picture if I recall correctly, gets a mention in the M&O repair manual

I think Steve Hull did a write-up in a recent WES journal if you are still interested and Barry has a fantastic set up on his Writetime site at the moment. Just a little too rich for me.

I have a few, some are super pens and well built, and others are a bit ropey. I suppose it depends on whom they had sub-contracted manufacture to at the time.

Thanks for that, the pen on Writetime is similiar to the one I mentioned in the OP, it's some time ago so my memory isn't all that clear. I don't recall a Parker/Valentine style clip though, I'm sure I would have noticed that (maybe not of course!! or I've just forgotten), wonder if there was a connection .

Thanks

Hugh
