Thank-you Tas, Milkb0at, Polanova, Snowbear, Pterodactylus for the kind words regarding my florals.

Pterodactylus ~ your creative juices have been bubbling up with ethusiasm. Outstanding! :)

Stringsandpetals ~ good work there! Excellent thing that Monday Match-up....helps to keep the creative wheels oiled and turning :)

This is a very humbling thread as I am not very good at drawing :)

I LIKE it though...so I do it.

My mini-project to get me sketching with the few pens that I have now is to try to do a one-minute-sketch of the razor that I used that day to shave with :D

Here are some recent samples:

Darkbulb,

I admire your work very much but I have even greater respect for your honesty and, despite your self-deprecation, your preparedness to post your artwork.

I, too, find drawing both pleasurable and extremely relaxing -- despite my end product looking so different from its intended appearance that I get frustrated with myself.

I can produce a passable outline of my subject but it is the shading that I find difficult. I think that I have too literal a mind so I try to reproduce ALL the visible shadows, and my drawing ends up being much darker than it ought to be. I think that it is knowing what NOT to fill in that is so admirable when I see the work of accomplished artists. I love seeing sketches that give the perfect impression of the object but with minimal shading. I think that you have done particularly well in that regard in your second drawing, of the King Cobra razor. Good work. It is much lighter in tone than the photo, yet captures the essence of the razor.

Cheers,

David.

Hi David,

if you enjoy seeing sketches of products as the designer 'doodled' to get to the finished product I can not recommend the "Making Britain Modern' book my Sir Kenneth Grange. I did a little review with some photos over here - you might find it interesting.

Thanks for that. I really enjoyed the "less is more" sketches (and products).

What a fabulous book to take to a coffee shop or, dare I say it, the smallest room in the house.

Odds are he designed the toilet you're sitting on ;)

I decided to try drawing something ... instead of simply colouring mandalas

Continuing along with my florals ~ My muse is currently the schedule of whatever is blossoming in my neighbourhood as Spring advances....drawn with a vintage dip nib and watercolour round brush using calligraphy & permanent inks on Stillman&Birn Zeta paper.

Yeah...I don't sketch. I prefer to illustrate ..it satisfies the little control freak in me.

Found this really neat pen-brush for $3.50 by "Deleter" that 'paints' with a flexible bush and the gray one is really fun to use to try and make shadows with :)

I still can't draw very well but this makes it even more fun to doodle around!

Darkbulb ~ me thinks that now you're going to have fun adding some smooth shadow & depth to those drawings, with your new brush pen. Looking good!
