Pictogramax, Tas great Stuff  :puddle:

Thanks Snak, I took the picture right when I finished it.

Maybe it´s the flash which make it look a bit more blue.

In the original its very dark.

Many thanks, everybody! It is a panel from a comic I'm drawing, the setting is Morocco and Maghreb inspired. But it's a fantasy story, not realistic.

I've been drawing my comics with fountain pens for some years now, mostly with Platinum 3776 with SF nib, and recently with Pilot Custom Heritage 91 with SF nib also. Love them both :-)

Thank you SNAK, Pterodactylus. Your appreciation means a lot.

Tas, I really like that Sepia ink and how it's bled just perfectly to suggest the oxidised metal. I love your dramatic lines. Which pen/nib did you use for the gorgeous expressive wide lines for the frame of your drawing? It is lovely.

Thanks for pointing my omission.

It's a humble 3.8mm Pilot Parallel pen. I used a ruler and rotated the pen randomly as I moved across.

SNAK ~ "Pira, thank you for the explanation of the brushes you use for ink washes. I will take look at the Princeton Umbria brushes and may put some sizes of rounds in my next art supply order online. "

...I wouldn't worry about the particular brand. The thing to keep in mind is the bristles should probably be synthentic....and not white....and definitely not expensive. I use whatever I can get my hands on for these. There is not much in the way of art supply shops where I live, so I've accumulated an odd assortement from when I've travelled. Naturally that means I can never find the replacement that is the same because they've changed the name or some such. I am grateful that so many art supply shops are starting to go online though...this will make future purchases much easier.

You use the Carbon Black ink in both these pens? Have you encountered any problems with permanent ink in them or do you have a pen cleaning schedule?

Today's sketch.... drawn with a Monte Rosa EF pen on Stillman&Birn Zeta paper...

I need to figure out how to prop these things up to keep them in a position on my desk to maintain a consistent perspective. It's one thing to try and do still life's without pencil lines but it's an entirely different thing when you not seeing the same thing from moment to moment.

Yup, CB ink in both of them, no problem. Each time I refill the pen I give it a thorough cleaning, but that's about it. Have to say that I use my pens daily, so they don't dry out between sessions. Once when I was on vacation and didn't use the pen for about three weeks, it was a dry starter after that pause, but with another round of cleaning and refilling everything went well.

Thank-you. That was exactly the information I needed. :)

I've been looking for an alternative for my Platinum Carbon Desk pens. They are great, but they are cartridge pens...which is a bit limiting. Your explaination is pretty much my experience with these ones & the Platinum carbon black.

Have you ever used any other permanent inks in them? DeAtramentis document inks for example....

I use regularly De Atramentis Document Brown for sketching and washing over with watercolors. It has been great for me and I can recommend it as an alternative to CPB:

Picto: Your artwork on your site is amazing! They reminded me of a comic book series (and later animation movie) called Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. I grew up reading the series in the 80's and 90's and loved it.

I tried the nano carbon inks too, and have settled on De Atramentis Document/Archive inks for now because they seem to flow better and less cloggy than Platinum Black/Sepia, and because D.A. Doc inks can be mixed and diluted as I like. I tried mixing Platinum Carbon Black and Sepia once (to slightly darken the Sepia) but the mix went kind of granular inside the pen so I didn't pursue the mix any further.

Pira: Thank you for the tips on brushes. I think I will start using that already stained taklon brush and will add another size synthetic brush for large areas of ink wash (and make sure that the synthetic bristles are not WHITE). :)

SNAK, thanks! I still remeber watching Nausicaa anime in my late teens for the first time; you are right.

Good point on difference between De Atramentis and Carbon Black. The latter can get a bit gummy on hot days, kind of sticky - although it never was an obstacle to work, the feeling is sometimes there. I never felt the same with DA Document Brown, I would agree it flaws a bit better than PCB. I didn't try DA Document Black yet, as I have two more bottles of PCB on shelf, but will be possibly switching to DA once my stock of PCB is depleted.

That's beautiful! You should be selling these as notecards or something.

I am noticing the Parallel Pens everywhere lately. I am going to get myself a set and try for myself too!

Your rolling effect was really interesting, enhancing your beautiful drawing.

I particularly like this one Pira, the warm colours make the red colour pop!

"Oh DO go on. You were saying something about 'being a black cat means having impunity to bad luck'... particularly on Friday the 13th."
