Bivouac... Very nice!! I especially like the lighthouse.

Great stuff!

Fountain pens are my preferred COLOR DELIVERY SYSTEM (in part because crayons melt in Las Vegas).

Create a Ghostly Avatar and I'll send you a letter. Check out some Ink comparisons: The Great PPS Comparison

Don't know where to start?  Look at the Inky Topics O'day.  Then, see inks sorted by color: Blue Purple Brown Red Green Dark Green Orange Black Pinks Yellows Blue-Blacks Grey/Gray UVInks Turquoise/Teal MURKY

I have learned two things from perusing this thread:

  1. There are some incredibly talented people out there.
  2. I am NOT one of them. ;)

I have often wished for the artist's gift, but alas, I can only paint my pictures with words.

That is a gift in and of itself, Yaakova.

Thank you. I think it would probably take me more than "a thousand words" to express what some of the FPN members are able to convey with just a few lines and colors.

Have I told you that I’m drawing CARTHAGO with Platinum 3776 fountain pen with soft-fine nib and Platinum Carbon Black ink? Both have never failed me, either for sketching or professional work. If this affordable pen is so good, I can only wonder how those top-of-the-line Nakaya’s are performing.

Dude, that totally rocks... How much do you pencil before you start inking? Been looking at the 3776, your pushing me over the edge... Nice work.

If you think everything is going well... you obviously have no idea what is really going on!

Thanks Bivouac and Prvt. Troter!

First I do a rough storyboard, a basic layout, to discuss it with scriptwriter and editor. Then I scan it and do detailed "pencils" on my tablet PC (because it allows me to go anywhere to work and it's easier to fix perspective and eventual mistakes) - you can see it here:

Then I transfer it to paper by light-table and ink it as shown.

Noodler's Ahab done on location at the Huntington Library. Somewhere I have a the start of a second version where I did a pencil outline of the tree so that I captured its sinuous nature rather than simply was experimenting with making marks with the pen.
