A sketch I just completed for this week's blog post (on sketching with toned paper) -- watercolor and white highlights over Japanese fude brush pen & Chinese vermilion "chop" ink on tan Fabriano Rome paper. (Hopefully the article will be out tomorrow. )

I have some sketches that I thought about posting, but there's some nudity depicted - though not in a pornographic sense. If it's all right with you I'd love to post them, though. :happyberet:

When traveling I always keep a carnet de voyage -- lots of watercolor over pen & ink, but usually with a casual, cursive penmanship. However, during our move from Texas to Maryland some time back I decided to do something a bit more "epic", bought a large Punjab watercolor journal, broke out ALL my pens, and honed my calligraphy skills. The results are the subject of this week's blog article an I hope you'll care to take a look. :happyberet:

This is just gorgeous! a feast for the eyes , and food for the artistic spirit ,thanks for sharing, there seems so little of this kind of work around nowadays,I suppose there is little commercial call for it,not that there ever was, only the pure & honest need to express yourself.Had a look at the blog too - more visual soul food ! thanks again.

You could post them in a spoiler tag; anyone who doesn't want to see them can just not open the tag.

I sketched this fairy with my vintage Sheaffer in my Gamma series sketchbook. I used Montblanc Toffee Brown ink today, so I named her Toffee… The ink is really lovely and nicely saturated!

Lovely! In "Gamma" like Stillman&Birn sketchbook? How do you like it? Is it as good as everyone is saying?

I figured this'd be the topic to let people know about a FP contest we just opened to commemorate the first annual Fountain Pen Day. The winner receives a handmade journal commemorating FPD 2012 by TM Lee. The top 10 submissions will be displayed on the site for the next year!

More information about the contest can be found here: http://www.fountainpenday.org/fpd-2012-contest/

Thanks!

Yes they are BRILLIANT! I only use their sketchbooks now, the paper is great and you can use them for anything, painting and drawing. They have a great Facebook page where they show all kinds of sketches made in their sketchbooks by people from all over the world.

All these beautiful artworks made me feel like posting something, but... today was not my day. After ten attempts to upload the picture, I give up...

Carry on with the good FP art!

I love the weathered look of the shutters. May I ask, were they natural finish or painted? Oh, and I love your choice of ink too. (It's my favorite for working with watercolor washes.)

Cheers!

Thank you inky_artist! The shutters were painted, but weathered, just as you say.

I've been also experimenting with Diamine's Registrar and it's solid, but has to be properly dried for washes (so cannot be used as fast as Carbon Black).

Carbon Black is still an undisputed ink-king for sketchers!
