A number of years ago my husband and I went to a performance by a guy (sadly I don't remember his name now) who had memorized Beowulf in the original Old English.  Afterwards, there was a Q&A session with the audience.  Somebody asked him if different audiences in different languages could follow the original spoken text better than people who spoke modern English, and the guy said that people in Iceland could follow it about the same as people in the US (but getting different words that they recognized).  The people who could follow it the *best* though?  People whose first language was Frisian -- which I gather is spoken by people in the northern edge of the Netherlands and part of Germany (along the North Sea).

@DvdRiet -- Yes, you are correct about "Pennsylvania Dutch".  The Amish are apparently Swiss-German and Alsatian in background and ancestry.  While people think of "Pennsylvania Dutch country" as being in south-central PA, there are Amish communities in western PA, Ohio, and IIRC Indiana as well and possibly other states as well (according to Wikipedia the largest Old-Order Amish community is in Ohio, about an hour or so's drive south of Cleveland).

LAMY joy with Z53 in EF, Rohrer & Klingner "Lotte" and a box of 40 year old colored pencils of various German manufacturers. Eberhard Faber and Faber-Castells still work the best.

As always, I like your pen and ink drawings. Colonel Grigoriev's portraits are a tribute to a great man and remind us all of how wasteful war is.

Thanks. I find it calming and it helps to focus. Not that I need this at the moment. Also, yes, it is fun to see the symmetry of the end result. 🤩

I still think Andrew_L's drawings should be part of an exhibition after the war. Pretty sure there are more artists who could contribute to an enormous representation of arts. Maybe a touring exhibition around the world. Pretty sure Ukraine has other priorities now. But after the storm is over they should think about it. And we will pest Andrew_L until he considers to give it a try, too. 😉

I’ve tried this ink a long time ago, but it was in an Aurora with a strong enough ink flow that this ink was almost black. Only the reverse side of the paper gave an idea of the hidden color. So I decided to try them on a thin nib and it was a good idea))

Thank you. Yes, even two, because the first one was drawn by ordinary ink on office paper. Alas, Canada Post is very slow work when it comes from non-US region, my experience says about 2 months, so need wait one more month or so))))
