Wow am so glad to have found this thread!

The following scans are doodles done freehand with no pencil outlines with a Muji Alumi fountain pen, on 180gsm paper sketchbook, a4 size.

Sorry couldn't keep the book flat on the scanner.

Loving this thread!! So much beauty, humor and inspiration. I do have one question for those coloring their drawings: As a near-beginner, I'm using Pilot Precise rollingball pens for drawing and ordinary colored pencils for coloring, but I'd like to find a medium that gives more saturated colors and are more easily blendable. What should I use? Or can I get better results from my colored pencils by using them in a different way?

Thanks everyone, and I hope to see more wonderful art soon. I'll add mine when I finish something worth posting. Just doodling for now.

color pencils are a fine medium and there are some brands that shade better than others. for the best color pencils for your money, i'd try Prismacolor. They're not cheap, but there are other brands out there that make them look cheap. They are wonderful pencils though.

By coincidence, I was doodling sometime last week to experiment on the Noodler's Black ink.

I am not sure if this reply will be of any help to you. :)

These are 2 sketches rendered slightly differently...

Both using Noodler's Black ink.

Pen was a Rosetta North Star FP with a Pendleton crisp italic <M> nib custom ground to my requirements , ie 0.5mm nib strokewidth

Great nib ground by "pb2". This pen has become a worthy replacement to my old Osmiroid sketchpen.

I am impressed with this affordable FP. It starts wet everytime it touches paper. No skipping. I would have thought so for a thick ink like Noodler's Black. Then again I haven't let it remain unused for long enough. :)

The wash was applied not long after drawing, so you can see smudging in the black inks.

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2010%20SKETCHES/Ink/Coloured%20Pencils/DSCF3532.jpg

The bodies of the coloured pencils were rendered using kids acrylic paint in dried pallette form or the Lyra coloured pencils :hmm1: - now I forget

I can't tell becos the colours (on the tip vs the body) are so identical.

But the tip of the pencils in this drawing was coloured in using Lyra water soluble coloured pencils.

There are some parts of these tips that are lightly washed with a wet but clean brush to blend in the colours.

One side is darker and coloured in heavier to produce a darker more solid shade.

Its on the left side where I hatched in the shadow areas.

Here is a closeup where you can see the tips coloured in by coloured pencil ...

http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u236/TMLee/2010%20SKETCHES/Ink/Coloured%20Pencils/DSCF3533.jpg

I suppose good quality coloured pencils shld be ready indentifiable in art stores.

Such as Berol. or Faber Castell - those for professionals.

I think I still have a artist magazine (from decades ago) solely featuring artwork with coloured pencils - truly astounding - the realism. Unbelievable.

Using a wet brush to wash will blend in fine but it will turn it into a pastel kind of wash.

You may be having a different effect in mind.

Anyway, enjoy your sketching :D

Let me experiment a bit more...

Wow, watch_art, that's an impressive number of drawings. I'm quickly learning what sort of superhuman patience is required to do the crosshatching and shading...ugh! I did see Prismacolor in the store and you're right; they aren't cheap. Something to save up for when I get better at this. I just have "Artist's Loft" pencils, which is, I believe, Michael's store brand.

TMLee, love your pencils! The differences are subtle and now I'm thinking the color is secondary to the line drawing. Impressive drawing is impressive with or without color. I've considered using a wet brush to blend but didn't know if that would pucker the paper. I'll give it a shot; I want a more watercolor look, whether pastel or not.

Thank you both for the great advice and lovely artwork!

First time using the aurora pen + noodler's black on daler rowney cartridge paper sketchbook. Very strange how an M nib end up drawing like EF with this ink and paper combo.

Hi, Mary.

I'm not an artist, but I've seen what can be done with just a pen or pencil or colored pencils. We have this thread to bear witness. My avatar was done only with colored pencils. It is just a small snippet of the entire picture, which I had commissioned from a very talented young lady in England. I have the original framed in my home.

You are getting some great advice in here from the masters of pen art (I bow to all). It doesn't matter which medium you use or if you mix and match, it only matters that it is your medium, and we can't wait to see what you have for us! Post some, and let us follow your progress.

A drawing of my Yafa using my Yafa. The equations you see are to find the volume (area) for the different parts of the pen. I like it a lot, but I don't have a scanner... Oh well!!!

Every time there is a negative in life there is always a positive. A failed test, a relationship gone sour. Whatever it may be, your life is not over. If you dwell on the negative you can`t see the world with the right eyes. There is a positive in every moment, even if it is small. Try your whole life to find that positive and live off of it and you will be loved. My blog... Check it!!!

I just realized I haven't drawn anything with ink since september, and haven't inked any drawing even longer...

So here I present some doodles made.

They needed to be as simple as possible, since they where to be drawn by someone else later on, so it's not that great...

As mentioned earlier that i will experiment more ,, well , this is a simple tryout...

Using LYRA watercolor pencils,

The red part was coloured pencil , then after that, gone over with a small wet brush carefully.

The words are coloured pencil in yellow and green.

The black is Noodlers Black using a Rosetta North Star with a Pendleton Cursive Italic.

Done in a smaller than A6 sized journal.
