It's been a while.

"Milk bottles"

1744950638_Kevinsmilkbottles_INSTA.thumb.jpg.6142df0b312864a6cfee7dea3dbd3f1a.jpg

Drawn primarily with a Pilot Parallel pen using Blackstone Black (or Black Cashmere as I know it).
Iroshizuku Ina Ho playing the part of the "milk".
And Noodler's Lexington Grey for the wick  . . . when you absolutely can't have an ink budge off the page.

When learning birds this was named the Audubon Warbler, from a picture I took this year, trying out Platinum Carbon ink for resistance to watercolor, this is a great ink for water resistance.

"Milk Bottles" is very clever. On my computer the top of the image loads and then I have scroll down to see the whole photo. As I scrolled, I was thinking, where is this going, and why is the milk that color? Then I found out: :o!

I didn't mean it to be clever. Glad you like it. Thank you 😊

The second from the right in the bottom row - this is definitely not a Molotov cocktail? :)

Imitating Sailor Souboku decided to mix a similar shade from more affordable Pilot Namiki ink.

I use Pilot Blue-Black all the time in my Pilot Custom 823s. It is basically a dark blue; I really don't see any black. Your mix has some black visible. Another pretty girl—and those blue-black eyes are hypnotic. I meant to comment on Bono a few days ago, but I was busy with work. I just checked, Bono does resemble the gondoliere. Bono has fancier accoutrements.

I like the Japanese pen, Japanese Ink, Japanese subject combination. There is a legend that when a samurai's sword is drawn, it must see blood. Since you drew this sword . . . .

Hi Frank, thanks.

What is fountain pen blood?:) Recently, in one of the near topics where I post photos of the nibs there was a discussion about "what is the soul of a fountain pen" :).

PS: the next one will be red, I promise :). Partially Japanese, but red ...:)

By the way, apparently it is a myth that samurai swords must see blood. Gurkhas say the same thing about their kukris. But they say it because they don't like showing their knives to every foreigner who comes along.

There are many topics on FPN that talk about blood-colored ink. My personal favorite is Diamine Oxblood—it comes very close to dried blood. Another good one was Montblanc Hitchcock, but it was a limited edition and is gone, now.

Michaels Jecks, a British mystery writer, has made a youtube video about Diamine red inks:

Thanks!

Yes, somewhere I had Diamine Oxblood in the sample, unless it dried out, of course, but I did not fall in love with them. For me, this color is more like red-brown. Of the reds, probably my favorite is Diamine Matador - they are not dark, but they are honest reds without shades of magenta and yellow/brownish :). I also like Edelstein Garnet, but from the dark probably Fritz-Schimpf Rod. But I haven't tried too many reds.

Wow, two in a row. I like the Sheaffer Skrip Red; it is bloody-looking enough. The reason I like Diamine Oxblood is that it really resembles dried blood. As for the second piece, I like the way the pen provides a "railing" for anyone ascending or descending those stairs.

True, that.

My dad probably couldn't have drawn anything to save his life.  But he was a very good amateur photographer.  My mom always said "He has the 'eye'!" -- meaning that he could manage to find an interesting angle to frame the shot (I remember one he took of IIRC the Eiffel Tower in Paris, where he was standing so that a tree branch overhead sort of was a canopy in the foreground around the Tower, off in the distance up some boulevard.

He just didn't see enough sense in drawing. I believe that anyone can learn to do something well if he(she) strives for it, and abilities can only speed up this process. If your father had an innate sense of noticing (framing), then he could learn to draw well, of course, if he wanted to.
