Folks,

The FPN Elves are having a little tidy up. As part of that process, I'm going to unpin this thread. It'll stay available and near the top of the forum as long as people keep posting to it, but across the forums here we have too many pinned threads.

Maybe that's a good idea since I'm one of those who tend to overlook pinned threads.

As for recent posts, all I say say is "wow"... Can only wish I had that kind of natural ability for drawing cartoons.

A fabulous drawing using colour pencils. I epecially like the way you have used the shading to denote tone and dimension using the same stronger colour. In my humble opinion, this drawing can pass for watercolour because of the way the colour on the faces and clothes blend in with each other.

The skin tone is subtle and effective at the same time. Al in all, an excellent use of colour!.

KW, my initials.

Drawn with a 4mm broad edged pen and touched up with a FP.

Cool. Motivation to work on calligraphy. Mine's easy. Mangle the letter "B" & since my initials are "BB" just plop it into photoshop. ; )

Very observant!

Sketched using Dixon Ticonderoga pencils & colored using Staedtler karat aquarell pencils & sable brushes.

Inked in a little using Richard Binder’s ultra-super-laser nib & cleaned up in Photoshop 10.

Here’s a question for any who might care to comment.

Still tweaking monitor gamma, & levels in CSS-3 DP.

How does image look on others monitors?

1.) too dark

2.) too light

3.) Jusss right!

thx

The images of the two characters from the average crowd do appear slightly darker on my monitor screen ( in comparison to the internet cafe screen where it appears lighter ) but that's because my monitor is on it's last legs....

Heres the sketch of Moe the nibmeister I prepared in pencil and then used a Sheaffer Legacy with a medium nib and Parker black ink to go over the outline and a Fireworks program to thicken the outline in black and put in the colour. Thank you to Pensee for suggesting I post it here.

Kewl!

I think you're onto something with Moe's Pen restoration service & limited editions from famous authors.

Faulkner LE: "Deep in the forest, the Old Bear of a pen couldn't hold enough ink when the shortest sentence ran, like a babbling brook, twisting and winding its way around the ancient trees, and down past the ancient oak that marked 500 words..."

Anyway, glad you posted. The more the merrier!

As to art itself, "Magic wand" tool or "lasso" for color fill? Very clean. Can't see any white gaps if using magic wand.

Here's a few of my little cartoon animals. Done with my Parker 45 with standard black ink on 135gm artist sktech paper.

Hope you like them.

I used the bucket fill option and then used the brush with a stroke fill of 4

Whimsical! I like them. I'm also jealous about your penmanship. Much better than mine! ; )

Ah... so simple & I make things so complex in Photoshop.

"Magic wand tolerance is at 32 see? and then blur tool size is set at 65 for 300 dpi-- 100% opacity...and then..."

And then one of the moderators told me this is a fountain pen forum-- stop babbling about image editing software!

My bad-- I'll PM next time!

I've got loads on my deviantart; this one is a more recent piece:

I penciled in the "fish" and did the rest freehand.

Like kitty in the window & dark imp from your site. For fish-- always one bigger than the next! IRL found that out the hard way when an Oscar managed to catch & eat a Jack Dempsy. Poor thing had lot of rocks & places to hide out. Guess he wasn't fast enough one night.

One from my "City Dragons" series!

Ha! I should print that out & give it to meter-maids here in San Antonio, but I should probably stop beofre end up in a rant. ; )

Great work!

Wish I had more of a sense of stylistic design rather than cartoon art.

I don't seem to have the imagination for such things as seen herein.

My mind works in 3-D geometric shapes, mechanical devices and close tolerances.

Maybe I should try just drawing what I know best, gears and dovetails and radius curves and angles and rifling and lock-works and...

“I view my fountain pens & inks as an artist might view their brushes and paints.

They flow across paper as a brush to canvas, transforming my thoughts into words and my words into art.

There is nothing else like it; the art of writing and the painting of words!”

:happyberet: My latest bamboo attempt. I had not done brush painting since 2004.

This is done with a Pentel Brush tip pen.

Nice work and thanks for sharing that!

Have never tried brush pens but I do know what they are; still trying my hand with my various FPs in an effort to get the hang of pen & ink again.

I'll probably go to my local library tomorrow and check for books on pen & ink pictures and techniques.

I'm expecting FedEx to deliver a new F nib assembly tomorrow, hoping it gets here early enough so I can go to the library early too.

I'm planning to do some more work on my current XXF to XXXXF nib, for doing sketch work, as those nibs works best for sketching/hatching/stippling and curving lines for those geometric 3-D effects.

I may even replace my current nib with the new one, since my current nib still has some minor flow issues even though my major rework has improved it significantly since received [@90%+ improved by my work so far, smoother than silk but still needs more very "minor" tweaking].

I really want to start drawing again, since you people are getting me very anxious to get started drawing ASAP by just seeing all that art work.

Keep the art work coming, please, as they're a joy to see and are giving me many ideas on what I may be capable of, once I get the books, the practice and so on.
