I found it by searching in the pen review section, using "montblanc 220" as the words.

It is then on page 3

Cheers

Fount it, here Thanks!

Pfhorrest, to remove the nib, unscrew the section from the transparent part and push the nib and feed from the front, it will simply slide out from the wider end. Nice pen.

One of the things that drives me crazy about these is the small star at the end of the barrel. On a few of the examples I have they do tend to fall out and it is not unusal to find them missing.

Hi Brian, yes I have seen a few with the knob stars missing. On some other examples I have seen that the star tends to get pushed out slightly by the piston spindle when the piston is actuated.

I also find a variety in the shape of these stars: A group shot, one of these is a MB121, identical for all practical purposes to the MB220/224, except for more fancier trim and smooth gloss body.

Sorry to revive an old thread, but Thank You Very Much to Hari! I just received a 1246 and I used these instructions (which worked perfectly) to take it apart and clean lots of old ink. It's like new now.

:notworthy1:

I'll show some pictures soon -- I have to show off a little. One question though: on my pen, the yellow o-ring that is visible in the ninth picture was old, brittle, and cracked, with some small bits missing. Is there a replacement for this ring available anywhere?

Thanks again!

Glad the thread was worthwhile. :)

The yellow ring has no role in the pen functioning. It is just an indicator to the MB repairman that the filler unit is screw in instead of press fit. HTH.

Hi,

This was very nice. It has been some time since I had to repair one of these pens, and the pictures brought back many happy memories of cleaning them up and getting the pistons lubricated before returning them to their owners.

Very worthwhile indeed! And very interesting about the yellow ring. We are lucky here to have such knowledgeable people.

Still it would be nice to be able to replace this ring so I wonder if they are obtainable at all?

Hello Hari -

I'm writing with another question. I bought another 1246 because I really like them. However it is different from my first one. It has a section and nib much like you show in post 17 and there is no yellow ring visible when I unscrew the filler knob. So from your post above it sounds like filler unit is press fit. If this is true, can the filler unit be removed for maintenance or is it permanently attached? Thanks for any help you can provide!

a clear picture of the pen would help.

when you unscrew the section and peer into the barrel, do you see a narrow hole or a wide hole?

Hi, clear pics and it is a narrow hole. I am pretty sure it will disassemble like the 220. Perhaps later in the production they decided to do away with the yellow band indicator or maybe the 1246 never had a press fit filler so the distinction was not required, we will probably never know unless someone comes across some factory manuals...

Thanks! You are correct and it screws out just like the other one. I was nervous to try this without a little reassurance.

Hi,

Can anybody tell how to disassamble the piston of a Meisterstück 72?

Thanks!

daffie

the 72 mechanism is same as the 12 and very different from the mb22x

the 72/12/14 use press fit fillers, avoid disassembly unless imperative.

I thought to open the pen, because there are very tiny hairlines in the piston knob. When I could find another knob, I thought to replace it.

Of course the hairlines don't matter for the use of the pen...

also the hood/section of the 12 loves to crack and there is a special rubber washer used at that joint for sealing which likes to bunch up contributing to the crack. I usually leave these 12/14/72/74 pens alone unless something is wrong.

So your advise is to let the pen together and accept the little hairlines?

yes, the hairlines are a feature with some of the older plastic montblancs.

I bought one new approximately 1970. I'd since gravitated to bigger pens with bigger nibs, but recently re-discovered just how good this pen is. See:

https://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/topic/259865-montblanc-221-burgundy-fountain-pen-14kt-gold-585-b-nib/?p=3464472

I mention in the above post that I sent mine back to MB complaining about the nib catching on a sleeve inside the cap. MB simply removed the sleeve and all was fine afterwards.

The underside of my nib is shown in this pic. It's like that of post #18, but different from that of post #17. You can see a nick in the feed in my pic. That hasn't affected performance and was probably caused by the (now removed) metal sleeve.

The glare of my lights makes the feed look metalic, but it's black plastic.
