Sailor 1911 vs. Mont Blanc 145

These 3 pictures were taken a very long time ago. They got lost in the computer somewhere and I found them today!

Here are comparison shots of the Sailor 1911 and the Mont Blanc 145. I sold the Sailor 1911 because it was a bit on the thick side, but gosh, the Sailor 1911 writes dozen times better! I really wish I can fit a sailor nib on the Mont Blanc. I got the Mont Blanc only because I wanted a classic looking pen and they had it in a thinner width. I love it, but so overpriced.

Thanks Betty.

Beautiful pens and quite the resemblance!

My Pilot 743 is another Meisterstuck look alike.

What is the filling mechanism on the 145?

And is the 145 still made? Never heard of it.

The 145 is a cartridge/converter kind. I believe this model is still in production. Do you have a picture of your Pilot 743?

The MB 145 'Chopin' c/c is actually the successor of the infamous MB 144 c/c, which had a too fragile 'precious resin', so it shattered easily.

I chose a Professional Gear as my Sailor pen, which doesn't look immediately like a MB. I live in Germany, where the locals point derogatively to any kind of 'copy' of their 'premium' products.

Hi,

Betty, I recommend that you remove that sticker and place it on a piece of wax paper. Tuck it in the manual book. The colouring of that sticker rubs off easily.

Nice pen! Still need to get one, but no $$ right now, :(

Hi Betty, and thank you for posting those very clear pictures.

I would agree the Sailor 1911 writes very well but, as your pictures show very clearly, it is just that bit thicker/fatter than the Chopin 145 and for that reason I did not buy the Sailor, tempted though I was.

I have found the 145 to be a reliable and comfortable pen to use and, it would seem to me, quite tough with a decent thickness of material for a smallish pen and a metal liner to the barrel for added strength.

Of course, I have not dropped it from a great height onto a stone paving slab (yet!) so I cannot say whether it would survive that. But then, would any plastic pen? Well, perhaps a biro...

I was very fortunate in getting the MB as a gift from Eurostar following a lot of train rides between London and Brussels :)

Bringing this back from the dead but are you referring to the nib width sticker on the MB? and here I was thinking those were meant to be thrown away :)

I would love to see the Sailor 1911 with the Pro Gear two tone nib.
