Waaaaaaaaaaaay TMI! :roflmho:

Is this their way of saying the pen needs a diet?! :ltcapd:

Y'all will have to keep an eye on the progress for me. Headed off on travel after today and can't swear to internet accessibility during the whole thing. :gaah:

Relax Ghost Plane, enjoy your trip.........whatever the reason - always make the most of a trip! I promise to keep myself under control and hope that by the time you return the pens will be ready for a test run!!! :clap1:

Each day is the start of the rest of your life!

From 'Our man in Oz' comes news that the garage extension which is taking place within the grounds of the 'Chalmer Mansion' has encountered a hold-up in the building work due to the bureaucrats in that region's local government 'Health and Safety' department. The controversy appears to have been started when the planning application was made to build a garage [small aircraft hangar size actually!] to house three Rolls Royce 'Phantom' motorcars, which Lady Chalmers had ordered a month or so ago, it was pointed out in the application that it was essential that the said vehicles must be securely accommodated for security reasons.

Rather than try to argue with the 'Powers that Be' Lady Chalmers has cancelled her order for the three RR Phantoms, and stopped the construction work within her grounds.

It is with regret that her decision to stop the plans for the construction has resulted in a rise in the unemployment figures for the region, but this seems to be commonplace in this age of the threat of 'Global Warming' that these sorts of confrontations occur in bureaucratic circles.

In an interview with Lady Chalmers recently, a spokesperson stated that:-"Lady Chalmers has decided on this coarse of action after careful consideration, and if you don't like it then 'Tuff', So there!!! Ner!!!"

So quite obviously, it's back to the original boxes again!

See Y'awll!!!

Good Gracious! That 'man in Oz' is a pain in the posterior............can't take him anywhere!!!

I can live with just boxes...............I have all the room in the world for boxes..........it's the room for the pens that is driving me crazy :gaah: :gaah: :bonk:

when all this is over I can join the rest of society in a cool darkened room............... and think about how it used to be before a certain Genius in London started messing about with silver and gold and pens!!!

Now to work out how to pretty up that hole in the back yard and make it a fishpond............

I am pleased to be able to tell those who are interested, that Graham has been working on the base-pens, he has solved the slight problem regarding the width of the barrel, [i told you he would!] and they will be finished by Friday, and hopefully in the post to arrive at Henry's studio by Monday of next week.

I think that this 'project' has been one of the most 'long-running' that Henry has ever done, but that said, it has been a great experience, and like most things that aren't easy to accomplish it is very satisfying when they eventually come together.

Ghost Plane, if you are somewhere where you can read this, "Mother and baby are doing well!" Graham is on a week's holiday next week, but he was determined to get everything done before he took leave, so we're nearly there!

Let's all hope that they don't get lost in the post!!! :headsmack:

See y'awll!!!

Truffle Finder, you shouldn't even joke about stuff going missing in the post - even though Royal Mail is so good (compared to other mail services) :crybaby:

Poor Henry would have to start all over again............and I couldn't bear that :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01:

I can report to you that the boxes [Oh! no not them again!!!] have arrived, but they need to be 'lined' inside to 'house' the pens properly. This is quite a simple if repetative proceedure, but the size of the Spirit of Life pen [particularly in diameter] has meant that the internal 'fittings have had to be tailor-made to fit the pen in neatly.

So far, [and I was there while Henry was working on them] nine of the twelve boxes had been completed, and I should think that the other three have been done as I write this.

I just thought that I would bring you up to date.

It is nice to think that these pens are 'hand-made' right down to the boxes, in this day and age! :puddle:

Hello again!!! I go, I come back!!!

I can confirm that Graham has just contacted Henry's studio to explain that the Spirit of Life Pens are in the post guaranteed to arrive on Monday morning, [guaranteed before midday anyway]. So we're nearly there, just the hallmarks to be done, and "That's it Folks!!!" [Looney Tunes Circa 1930?!!!]

Glad to hear it. Tell Henry to guard the children for me and I'll be home when I get home or the job is done, whichever comes first. :ninja:

News just in from the local sorting office:- "There are voices coming from inside the parcel addressed to Henry the Penman!" Says the voice at the other end of the telephone.

"What are they saying?" I asked [As you do!!!]

"They keep repeating the same thing again and again. 'Are we there yet? Are we there yet?' "

Just kidding!!!

See Y'awll

Next bulletin:- Tomorrow, before midday.

The package arrived with the 'babies' inside, the overlays have been polished, the base-pens will be done tomorrow. One completed pen has been sent to Neal to start it's 'modeling' career!!! The others will be Hall-Marked in the next few days.

Then It's a case of how Henry and Ghost Plane decide how to proceed from there.

Viola... a link to Henry's website... The Spirit of Life in all its glory.

http://www.henrysimpole.com/portfolio112380.html

The image with the three pens alongside each other is for scale purposes - The Spirit of Life alongside a Montblanc 149(!) and a standard sized Parker 51 Custom.

Apologies for not being able to post the images direct on here. I don't know why but this site just won't upload my image files anymore...

Hope you like what you see.

Regards,

Neal.

Ah - finally... and it was indeed worth the wait.

Lovely pictures - can't make out the calligraphy much but the pen looks great. The length gives me an impression of a reed pen - I hope it has that feel in use too.

Just out of interest Salman, is there any possibility that you could refresh everyone's memory with regard to the translation of the prayer that is written on the pen's barrel.

I'm sure that I am not the only one who cannot remember it word for word.

Thank you.

Sure - the verse says:

O Son of man!

I loved thy creation, hence I created thee. Wherefore, do thou love Me, that I may name thy name and fill thy soul with the spirit of life.

The composition is split into two spirals. The salutation (O Son of man!) appears in a somewhat larger size in the middle of one spiral. The remainder of the verse is written on the other spiral and goes all the way around.

You're welcome wolverine1 (and thanks for comment :-)

The pen is a beauty indeed. The real artist for this project is Henry and he deserves all the credit- my contribution is very small and has little bearing on the beauty of Henry's creation.

All the 'base-pens' are polished, [as are all the overlays], the only thing left to be done is the Hall-Marks! :bunny01: :bunny01: :bunny01:

Henry is hoping that everything will be done by the time Ghost Plane gets back from her 'trip' beyond reach of 'broadband', but we're hoping that maybe she has seen this thread by now anyway.

What a gorgeous pen! One of these days I'll own a Henry Simpole pen, yeah, and I'll win the lottery too.
