I have decided to give my friend a Pilot Prera and I think it would be good to know what its name means.

Not a clue what it means and a google search turns up nothing. It is a great pen for the price though!

I seem to remember it means "opera", but it's a vague memory, sadly.

I don't have my Kojien handy, but i'm pretty sure that this is not a Japanese word. It sounds like a made-by-marketing-dept. name.

There are many Singhalese (Sri Lankans) and (mostly) Christians from Kerala (South West India) who have Prera (or some other permutation of that name) as a last name.

It was probably chosen 'cos it sounded nice (to the powers that run Pilot anyway). Consider some of the names of other Pilot pens - Legno, Legance etc.

Looked into my fancy Canon V330 wordtank and can't find anything logical. The Japanese have a talent for naming stuff with a foreign sounding name that doesn't mean anything. You should see the number of models of Toyota on the road!

I think I remember seeing a Starbucks knockoff in Korea called Star Prera. heh. I wonder if their coffee was just as bad.

well, at least the "legno" sounds right, cos i think the pen has some sort of wood veneer!
