Noodler's Brooklyn Brawn

I became interested in this ink after getting J. Herbin's Lie de The and wanting a darker green-brown. During a trip to New York I picked some up at Art Brown and I have not been disappointed!

The color is very dark, almost black at times, but upon closer inspection the green comes out. It's similar to Zhivago in that way, but I find the drying time to be better. I've tried it in a Pilot 78G with a fine nib as well as a Reform 1745 (what this sample was written in) and the color was very similar in both widths. Drying time took 20 seconds on Rhodia, so it'll do better on more absorbent paper. It shades well for a dark ink and with smoother transitions than Zhivago.

Though I don't use this ink regularly yet, I think it will be a consistent player in my rotation. I highly recommend it for those fans of motor oil (looking at you, Handlebar).

Pictures instead of scans because I find color more accurately captured. If anything should be considered, the colors may be slightly darker. In the comparison photo, the colors are Lie de The and Pelikan Brown.

Nice review and nice job with the comparison.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

Interesting, evocative ink -- reminds me of the color of subway trains in the '50s. This Brooklyn native may have to pick up a bottle -- at the Art Brown Spring Pen Fair, maybe?
