Mont Blanc Carbon Fiber Steel FP (146) Review

Hi all,

I was browsing around the review section and notice that no one did a review on this interesting looking pen so I decided to write one.

I got this pen a while ago from Mont Blanc boutique on Madison Ave in NYC.

Nib:

This is the standard 2 tone 18k gold nib in B. I got a B because of Blade Runner’s review on it. The nib is super smooth with a little feedback when it glides across the paper. The only downside is that I don’t use it often because of the college rule notebook I use for graduate school; the lines are just too wide for me.

Body:

The cap is made from twisted carbon fiber and overlay with lacquer finish. It is pretty shinning when light hits it. The body is made out of steel with polish finish.

Weight:

This pen is very well balance with or without posting the cap. It is much lighter than one expected from a metal pen.

Conclusion:

To me this pen is the ultra modern pen with a twist (being a fountain pen). I really like the combination of the twisted carbon fiber cap and steel body. It is very interesting to look at but it does not draw a lot of attention as being too showy. The only regret is that I don’t use this pen that often.

That carbon fiber weave pattern is very nice as is the color. Hmm, Oyster grey perhaps? I too used finer nibs for school, but I hope you will find much more use for the it after your studies, because I find MB broad nibs my nibs of choice for personal writing. Thanks for sharing, and best regards.

Beautiful! thumbup.gif What is it about carbon fiber pens that excites me? I have a couple of them. Not this one, though I want it now. Thanks for the review :)

Nice carbon fibre. I was expecting a 'whole body' thing but interesting with it just on the cap. Presume the barrel etc is stainless steel? (just reread to find it is, doh!).

Is this pen a piston filler?

yes it is the piston filler, the Le Grand model. This pen is also available in 144 which is a smaller pen and converter/ cartridge fill.

I recently bought the identical pen during Montblanc's Sale. What sold me on it was that on the pen that I bought, the Broad nib was an amazing writer. As each nib is handmade, I felt that I had to have it. I now use it as my everyday writer. I have grown to really like the look of the pen. As someone said, not ostentatious but very interesting.

Btw, MB has a sterling silver Solitaire with carbon fiber that's also very nice.

Another MB broad nib admirer! That's how I felt when I tried my first MB broad on a 146. I've since added more.

Nice review, I toyed with getting this pen but eventually got a Stainless Steel, I do like the cap and its a shame they dont continue the pattern to the whole of the pen.

And how can this be, because he is the Kwisatz Haderach.

Many thanks for sharing your impressions.

That is one of the Solitaire series pens I really would like to get one day.

So far I have a Stainless Steel I which is identical but with an all stainless steel cap as well; the stainless steel looks great on those pens.

Enjoy your pen in good health.

Cheers

Michael

I like how it looks like a MB but isn't really. Kool pen indeed.

Very nice. I too, like the C.F cap and I agree, it takes down the "Flash" a good notch, not that their is anything wrong with "Flash"!

Have you considered getting the nib changed or adjusted to a finer one?

Thanks for the review....

Yes I did consider changing the nib into fine but this nib is very smooth so I decided to keep it as it is. Once in a while I do dip it and write a page or two. :ltcapd:

 very nice 146 variant, thanks for sharing

Pens are like watches , once you start a collection, you can hardly go back. And pens like all fine luxury items do improve with time
