A true Burgundy … "Binder Burgundy" ... uh-huh

Fair enough. I used an old bottle---it's possible that there was somebody living in it.

Thanks very much for the data, folks. I'm sorry if I alarmed anyone.

I have Private Reserve Burgundy and I must say Binder Burgundy definitely looks better.

A very intriguing color, I'll make a note in the recipe book, and try it soon.

It is a rare occasion that I take to mixing inks together, but when I saw the scans of this ink mix I couldn't resist I put 3mL of each ink in a 4 dram bottle and filled my .9mm stub VP with it and went to writing. A new Valentine's day ink for me. However, I found the notepad I used that first night and it appears that the glass of iced soda I had sweat on the paper (drips) and in the places where the water droplets when there is no writing left just lovely little water circles with a hint of coloring to make the ring!

So how can this be turned into a little more water resistant. Doesn't have to be Bulletproof, but it would be nice if it hung around long enough to go through the mail! This ink could keep me from splurging on a $20 bottle of the J Herbin 340th Anniversary ink!

Yeah, now that you mention it...Richard, what is that BBB (Beautiful Binder Blue) in your sig?

It's actually Photoshop Blue, but if you like it, you can try Diamine Royal Blue. :)

And I just got the DRB in an order this week! Can't wait to dip into it now....Thanks RB. :bunny01:

That's what I thought, too, but I still ended up getting a bottle of 1670. :bonk:

Binder Burgundy is a 50/50 mix of Waterman Purple and Sheaffer Slovenian Skrip Red.

Thanks for sharing your writing sample and the recipe. This looks so beautiful. Burgundy is my favorite color so I'm always looking for the perfect one. I have a bottle of Calli Burgundy that is pretty and waterproof, but it was only given a 2-star (out of 4-star) permanence rating by the company. I like my inks waterproof and permanent, but sometimes I'm so taken with a color I can't help myself, lol.

Be careful with Calli inks. I have had very bad experiences with them - turns out the calligraphy inks really shouldn't be used in fountain pens. And now I know why.

I can't find Waterman Purple here in Brazil, and importing it would be painfully expensive and take a lot of time, but I've found the Sheaffer Skrip Red and also Sheaffer Purple in a local supplier. Has anyone tried that combination ? Would it at least come close to this marvelous "Binder Burgundy" ?

Thanks

Richard, thanks for this info. Often asked myself the same thing. Just tried 'em out after a time of (Diamine Blue) abstention. Their Majestic Blue is good, too, but the Sapphire is too light-grey.

I ordered a bottle of the Waterman Violet and Shaeffer Skrip Red (slovania). They are both 50 ml so I just dumped both bottles into small glass pitcher, mixed them up and poured the mixed ink back into the two bottles. I now have 2 new bottles of Binder Burgundy.

I have to say it looks just like the scans on the first page. It is very beautiful and what I would call a real burgundy.

I didn't like either ink colors on their own. They are too bright for me. But together they are amazing.

Thank you, Richard!

Several days ago my Skrip red arrived, so I ran out and purchased a bottle of Waterman Purple.....and lo and behold, I'm a very happy camper! I throw it into the ballpark of a Visconti Burgundy, albeit without the "brownishness". A very nice color worthy of being in the rotation. Thanks Richard!

Looking for another post, I have stumbled into an old post that PB2 started; a member, Vermiculus, writes a psalm in a mix of his own made of 50-50 Pelikan Violet and Red.

That's a great psalm and a great color, too!

I just picked up some Sheaffer Red today at the local bookstore, so I'm good to go. Planning on making Binder Burgundy tonight.

I received my Sheaffer Red ink in the mail today. I mixed it with my bottle of Waterman Purple. I loaded the Binder Burgundy in my Pelikan M805. I absolutely love the color. Thanks to Richard and Pendleton for letting the FPN community know about this beautiful ink.

I was experimenting a little bit in the wee hours of this morning, and came reasonably close in color with a mix of Noodler's Midnight Blue & Tienanmen. Seeing as it was about 2 am, I can't remember exactly what proportions of ink I used but I'll experiment with it a bit more and see what I get.
