A true Burgundy … "Binder Burgundy" ... uh-huh

Have tried a mix of Diamine Imperial purple and Diamine Monaco red (no Sheaffer red available). Looks very nice.

Now I know what to do with the 95% full bottle of Imperial purple thumbup.gif

don't forget: if this color is close to the Richard's burgundy, these Diamines are available in small 30 ml bottles, which means you'll have less ink volume than buying the larger Waterman and Skrips. Just a thought.

Speaking of Diamine, It should be noted that they can make bespoke colours (currently this covers Amazing Amethyst and Sherwood Forest) as long as they are not copies of other brands. I'm sure they can add Binder Burgundy to the lineup.

Even if they come up with a close color, it will not be the exact same as Mr. Binder has specifically explained it takes Waterman Purple and Skript Red to achieve the exact tones, and given two companies do produce these inks, Diamine will not make them. Besides, it would not be fair play. After all, is Binder's idea and he has very generously offered to the forum members.

Awesome. But how readily available is the slovenian Skrip. Have never got into Sheaffer inks. Maybe this is a push in that direction.

Did you look at the link I posted earlier?

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

But the fun is in the mixing! It's mad-scientist-with-crazy-hair-and-ink-stained-lab-coat-fun!

See, I wanted an ink that was a bit redder than what was shown... so I added less purple. Sure, there are similar, already bottled, colors out there. But this is my own perfectly unique shade of ink!

Okay, okay, okay, I'll spill it (so to speak).

We're not able to carry inks for sale, so it's a recipe, not a bottle. I've never been enthusiastic about mixing 3 drops of this, 7 drops of that, 18 drops of the other, and so on, so my recipes are simple. My aim here was to produce a burgundy that has blue undertones like those in real wine, not brown undertones like those in most commercial burgundy inks. Binder Burgundy is a 50/50 mix of Waterman Purple and Sheaffer Slovenian Skrip Red.

Richard, this is what makes us love you beyond being the Nib-Meister you are. This the Script Red (it has "Slovenia" in glass letters on bottom of bottle) at Amazon.

Oh, I agree, mixing your own unique shade makes you feel great. Selling the one that someone else thought of is another thing...not that it has not been repeatedly done, though.

So, reprieve, are you showing us your mix? Now we want to see it.

Edited to ask Piembi to show us her version as well.

Lovely color. Glad that Richard shared the recipe -- the suspense was killing me!

As for a bulletproof equivalent, I suppose equal parts Hellbender Red and Violet Vote would be worth trying. Since I have neither of those on hand, I tried mixing Nikita (red) with La Reine Mauve (purple) for a semi-bulletproof burgundy (see below). (Actually, I had to bump up the red to about 60% to get that shade.)

FWIW, I've contacted Diamine about doing my burgundy as a bespoke color. We shall see. (Gotta come up with a good name for it...)

Well, if you go with Binder Burgundy, then you can add a sequel: a true blue ... Binder Blue to give us the cool color your FPN signature heralds. Just a thought from the ...instigator.cool.gif

Will Diamine make the already famous Binder Blurple?

Thank you for the recipe, Mr. Binder!

Sheaffer might see a spike in Skrip Red sales now. It isn't a very common color...

Well, I ordered a bottle just a bit ago, along with Waterman Purple from Pendemonium (no affiliation) in case my PR Dakota Red didn't work.

I tried the same proportions with Skrip Purple and PR Dakota Red. It made a decent burgundy but not the same as BB.

Y'all:

I dropped by Paradise Pens this afternoon on the way home and picked up a bottle of Waterman Purple. I mixed up a batch of "Binder Burgundy", and yes, it is quite a nice color.

Looking forward to seeing it available from Diamine. It will just give me another excuse to order some more 30ml bottles and try some new inks. I did try a mix of 1/2 Diamine Monaco Red and 1/2 Diamine Violet and the color was OK but definitely showed the brown tones the Richard was trying to avoid.

this is great, BB doesn't stand for "Blue-Black" anymore... it's now "Binders-Burgundy" :happyberet:

i'm not a fan of mixing inks, this is why i stick to PR burgundy mist. but if diamine comes up with Richard's recipe, i'm definitely buying!
