149 Demonstrator pictures

Those are great pictures Jeremy. I am down to one 149 demonstrator. It gets used daily. First, it sits in a stand on my desk:

(note there are are only three pens stands; talk about a reduction in the collection). And for as long as I have owned this demonstrator, it has been loaded with my favorite ink: J Herbin Rose Tendresse.

Rose Tendresse does not stain the barrel, dries quickly, and does not smear or smudge easily. Like most members of FPN, I tend to constantly tinker with the inks I use but this is the one constant ink I have used over time.

Pens are to be used I think.

Great stuff my good doctor!

Glad you love your transparent 149

thank you Kai

What a great looking pen shrinknib. Max did a fabulous job on your 149 Demo.

yes thank you very much.

Max did a great job here. I honestly have no affiliation with him, but do not know who else in the world I would ask to do this job.

absolutely! They are pens, therefore they write

Hi Sean

well, you started this whole me and demo thing!

I am glad to see you have one left, I know you won't be selling that one.... :ninja:

The ink must last for quite some time with that EF nib- mine is a flexy M nib, which just gushes ink.

I have used many inks, like you, but will try something not Herbin to start, but in that color range.

If I'm not happy then I will almost certainly go for the Herbin Rouge Opera which I really like.

Or the Rouge Caroubiere...

I can't argue with that choice.

yama-budo is the one color that I can never seem to keep in my writing rotation but at the same time I can never eliminate it when I am purging inks. It always finds its way back into the rotation. However, with some paper I find that it is not at all smear proof. That is, two days later a slight dampness will cause the ink to streak terribly. If it were not for this problem, I would use this ink every day.

Now, how about a picture of this ink in the pen...

And a writing sample, of course.

Hmmmm this should give you some hints

Pens are to be used I think.

This one has a gorgeous flexy '50s nib now

This is not a 50's nib but a late 80's-early 90's nib, it doesn't have tapered shoulders nor long tines, this one has broad shoulders and short tines nib where as on 50's 149s the nibs were mostly tricolor and were either marked 14c 585 or 18c 750. Yours is marked 14k 585 so definitely not a pen of the 50's.

Thank you Hari

Yes Georges the initial nib was a 1980's and I still have it.

But while Max was going to all the trouble of resealing this we "upgraded" to a beautiful 1950's nib, as you can see.

This is probably my favourite period of MB nibs.

And I still like looking at this pen!!

@Multiechelon

What would be the cost of one of these beauties is what I would like to know.

If you are the shy type and don't want to boastful here, please send me a PM

Thanks

Enjoy your pens

Have a nice day

Hi Junaid,
I no longer own any of these demonstrators. The good thing about a hobby is it adapts to fit your interest at the moment. For the last couple years, I have rotated through 20+ Nakayas to settle on a writing rotation of four or five.
Unlike many pens that are described as "rare", these demonstrators are truly rare but they are findable. As a reasonable estimate, I would put their price at a level comparable to the Patron 888 series.
