And it will be gone in a heartbeat as many of us consider there is no such thing as too wide of an MB nib.

+1! My first thought was his mailbox must be overflowing with PM's right now.

Thanks Tim. That picture is a favorite of mine. In a similar spirit, here are the demonstrators on a bed of 75th Anniversary 149 LEs :

Jasam, there are a few other threads on MB demonstrators, but in general I don't think much is known about them. (i.e., how many were made, were they given to people outside MB, etc.)

Yes it will be sad to let that demo go, especially after finally getting everything sorted out on it.

It is a stunning pen and I am sure it will be snapped up ASAP.

Especially with that rare nib as well.

I am looking to find a nice nib for mine, but Max is not letting me have any...

Thanks everyone. This story has a happy ending. After some fun experimentation, I am going to take a break from broad nibs. The good news is that the demonstrator is going to a new home. A fellow FPN member has bought the pen.

Not surprisingly, there was a lot of interest in the pen and I had some nice conversations with people. But for anyone that looks at this post in the future, the broad nib demonstrator is no longer available. And the EF demonstrator will never be for sale as long as I write with fountain pens. And I don't intend to stop writing anytime soon.

GP, if you ever find yourself in Boston I would love to have you sample my writing rotation. Perhaps I could convert you to the cult of EF nibs. (unlikely, I know)

Congratulations Sean. Whilst there will be legions of disappointed wishful buyers out there (its OK, I'll get over it :crybaby: ) I am glad to hear you managed to land that fabulous broad nib Demonstrator of yours with a fellow FPNer. Hopefully the luck Sod person will be good enough to share their good fortune with us by way of review!

As for trying to convert GP to EF nibs :roflmho: :ltcapd:

@pavoni - I must admit, GP's love for B nibs is infectious - so much so, I've ended up changing almost ALL my nibs to B's and B-variants (OB, OBBB etc.) - at one point I had the entire B range across my 149s...

...all I can say is I'm very thankful to GP for her infectious enthusiasm that's made this passion that much 'broader' notworthy1.gif

Be happy to try. My neighbor just got married and is headed your way with her new acquisition, so you never know... :hmm1:

Edited to add: In a conversation with FPH, I once convinced them to swap nibs for me with the observation, "I'm a broad kind of broad." It resonated with their New Yawk hearts and they promptly shipped the widest B I've ever experienced on a Montegrappa :yikes:

  • 3 months later...

After months since i posted that my 149 demo was leaking through the threads, many emails through a patient Max, many sleepless nights hoping the pen wouldn't be snaffled by customs in europe or on the way back down under I am thrilled that my pen is back!

And with clear sealant!

And with a 1950's M flexy nib!

And with absolutely no micro cracks!

As you can tell I am very excited. I hope to post pics soon.

Wonderful thread; wonderful image! It's amazing to be able to see how the ink gets drawn up in a piston demonstrator, let alone a large pen like the 149.

Ok I have taken a few photos.

Really need a tripod and lightbox...but nevermind.

I am very happy with the job max has done with this.

Clear sealant, no cracks, 1950's nib..

Only question now...do I ink it??

And if so, with what?????

Really pleased for you Shrinknib. That is a fantastic Demonstrator. I am sure it was 'pride' that persuaded Max to take on such a tricky task but...... :notworthy1: what a job he has done. :notworthy1: Fabulous. :clap1:

Thank you for the pictorial treat

Eyecandy you got there, shrinknib!

I would try to use something that will not stain, because cleaning it is a pain. The other question that I would ask myself is, if I want to use it would I be bothered by residual ink that get stuck in the section?

Thanks Pavoni

This was a real labour for me and Max.

I had to really convince him to take this on.

He was very worried about the section cracking and obviously no replacement parts.

He has also found a clear sealant here where he would usually use the pink goo.

This was literally six months in the making since I found the pen was leaking so I'm thrilled it is done!

Hmmmm this should give you some hints

Pens are to be used I think.

This one has a gorgeous flexy '50s nib now
