one pen is fitted with a broad shoulders short tines extra fine nib case of the 14kt 585 marked nib and the other one is fitted with a french market broad shoulders long tines broad nib marked 18ct 750 and it should be a flexible one normally.

This is a good clarification Georges. I think my comments on nib flexibility are not correct because I do not have enough experience to judge nib flexibility. I think I have one nib that seems to me to be very flexible. It is a 14C 149 that dates to somewhere in the late 1970s early 1980s.

http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu82/multiechelon/149Triangle/149Triangle_07.jpg http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu82/multiechelon/149Triangle/149Triangle_08.jpg http://i636.photobucket.com/albums/uu82/multiechelon/149Triangle/149Triangle_05.jpg

With very little effort, that nib produces significant line variation. I have to admit that, for my taste, it is such a wet writer that I only use it on special occasions. For example, cases where I know I am going to be writing a lot of pages (versus editing or obsessing over a single page or two).

So I can believe that the 18C B nib is a slightly flexible nib in reality. I think the issue is I probably don't "push" the nib's performance very much. But I do use this pen daily and love it.

Hey guys,

Why is the Montblanc star on the cap of this pen only a triangle?

does MB really have to use pink sealant on these bad boys?

Either write something worth reading or do something worth writing

Well, I heard from a birdie that a fellow member has just purchased a very nice all transparent 149 demo pen lately, after his prized Omas Lucens has gone walkabouts in the postal system... He did pay a princely sum for this privelege though. :bunny01:

I look forward to seeing the pen either in picture or in person. Congrats mate! Your retail therapy does work :roflmho:

P.S. $2k won't get a 139, maybe a parts pen. Even a naked Hemingway goes for $2k nowadays...

Those birdies just can't keep their beaks shut!! :roflmho:

Lutz on pen board has one for sale hat is very similar to the birdie's pen- all clear full full bands etc- perfect condition but a little pink sealant.

Go on Kai you know you want one!

  • 3 weeks later...

and after much to-ing and fro-ing I finally found the mother of all 149 demos.

This one is totally clear, two piece construction with no black lip at the end of the section, minimal sealant and a beautiful Fine nib like on my Hemingway.

It is time to resurrect this thread and get Sean back in the pen market- " I see your demos sean and raise you!!"

I did a thread on transparent demonstrators yesterday in the Writing Instruments forum which got some supportive reponses for pens like these. Whilst I can appreciate them for what they are I could never see myself adding one to my collection.

Oh! This pen is beautiful! :notworthy1:

Congrats Jeremy! Just make sure you use it sparingly and don't create micro cracks :roflmho:

Such nice pen requires a good photographer to document and you should start practicing or send it my way for a photoshoot :ltcapd:

P.S. I know the difficult journey in getting this pen. What's next? :notworthy1:

That is a great acquisition Jeremy. Congratulations.

As you know, I myself have gone back and forth about buying one of those clear demonstrators. I can not yet say whether I will track one down but I can say that I am down to five pens and I just took one out of the rotation. So there could be an opening.

I like the nib. If you ever want to get rid of the "pink" and have a better seal, let me know.

Eric

Absolutely. As soon as I can bear parting with the pen for its journey, I will shoot you a note.

Sean

No offense to Eric, I prefer with that pink sealant to maintain the character of the pen!!! Cheers. Htin

Thanks for all the lovely responses from friends new and old!

I am glad people like this one.

As kai mentioned I have been looking for a few years since Sean piqued my interest- him and Bryant (among others..) are the ultimate enablers.

I hope you find one like this sean, it is a treasure.

the only drawback, using it today at work is that the nib, while a nice fine is not as nice as my Hemingway, or not flexy like on my celluloid 149.

If I can find a spare section then I would think of doing a nib change but there is a risk to crack the section now.

And Kai...the photos weren't THAT bad were they??

Wait, maybe better not answer that! :headsmack:
