Anyone know about Lanier Pens?

I keep seeing ads everywhere online for Lanier Pens, and I've been trying to find some information about them without much luck. So far, there don't seem to be any reviews not affiliated with the company. Someone asked a similar question here last year, but didn't get a lot of responses. Is there anyone who knows about them or has direct experience with these pens as far as performance, reliability, etc?

Them´s kit pens! Not that this is a bad thing, I use a Classic Flat Top style one made by Sigma from an old Theakstons beer barrel, (a fountain pen with a Theakstons connection - this just pressed all the right buttons with me).

I want to have a go at doing some myself when I eventually get around to buying a lathe.

Sorry to sound like an idjit, but what's a kit pen?

A kit pen is a pen built from a supplied set of metal pen parts, including a nib and section, to which the builder adds a hand turned barrel and cap, normally made of wood or various plastics, which are bonded to tubes included in the component set prior to turning.

I have a sneaky feeling that there is a little bit of snobbery in the world of FP´s towards kit pens. They do have a couple of drawbacks as far as I can tell. one is that the quality of plating on some (but not all) is just laughable and two, any kit pen is only as good as the guy who does the turning and I´ve seen some really really bad ones.

That said, though I have never made any myself (yet), I have a few which are really rather lovely pens.

I ordered a couple of times from Lanier, the first two were okay, product top quality and product arrived in a reasonable length of time. The third time has been a disaster. We are going six weeks and I still do not have my pen; have been lied to about the ship date. It is an ongoing battle and their customer service is seriously lacking. Order with caution.

Hi Skeeter - thanks for your posting.

If you can let me know your order number by email me at lanierpens@sbcglobal.net I will find out what the status is.

As you know, we deliver a top notch product and each item is hand made. We do not sent out mass produced items and sometimes finish products are rejected by quality control and we have to start over.

Yes, on occasion is take 30 days or more to deliver but we ALWAYS deliver and 99% of our customers are happy. Look at our reviews! We have more than 3,600 (5 Stars).

Good news is that we have many orders (over 25,000 to date) which means we are doing something right.

We are very sorry about the delay and I will be sure to follow up if you would let me know your order number.

Regards,

Jim Lanier
