Complete List of Waterproof Inks

I've never seen that FS anywhere, only recall reading somewhere about one of their inks that does change color when bleached for added fraud-resistance.

What vendor/s carries it?

TIA

Were you re thinking of Noodler's Manjiro Nakahama (Whaleman's Sepia), a JetPens exclusive?

As did Luxury Blue and Polar Eel Blue when I towel-tested them.

Anyone try using these inks with watercolor painting?

Fountain pens are the "green" pen. You don't throw a whole pen away when it's empty.

With all this GREAT information about waterproof inks, I was wondering what waterproof blue ink is closest to the blue of Parker Penman Blue Sapphire ink. While I have found great color in the Private Reserve American Blue ink, HeathnKara's water testing, http://www.fountainp...0entry1411297,

showed Private Reserve's Lake Placid Blue unable to stand up to soaking in water for 30 minutes. So, while I prefer the color of Private Reserve American Blue ink, I would like to find an ink that is close in color and has "staying power" as well. Can anyone help?

Thanks! : )

This is wonderful! Thanks!

I like to use waterproof inks to address envelopes, but have only recently discovered fountain pen inks that are waterproof, or at the least, very water-resistant.

This is SO much appreciated!

I really like the notes about the inks, too. Very good to know.

Now, can you tell me if there is a list of inks that are UV resistant?

Thanks again for all your research!

This is a fantastic compilation, thanks everyone!

I wish I could work magic on vintage pens like PenFisher, "The Pen Whisperer"!

I believe that all of the bulletproof inks are also UV resistant.

Yes, thanks! But I was wondering if others besides those were, also.

I Googled "UV resistant inks", and basically only came up with Noodler's inks. I like Noodler's inks, don't get me wrong! I was just wondering if there were others out there.

Thanks again; any helpful replies are appreciated!

There are some relatively new Japanese pigmented inks that might serve. I haven't used any, and I haven't seen any mention of their UV resistance, but you might want to investigate them.

I would be surprised if the japanese pigmented inks weren't also UV resistant, ie Sailor SeiBoku or Platinum Pigmented Blue.

Okay, cool. Thanks. Do they work in fountain pens? Do you recall the name?

They are FP inks, but I don't know the names. dcwaites mentions a couple in his post above, and I think Platinum may have introduced another color or two.

I think we need a wiki where we can document this sort of thing more permanently, and in a way that's more findable.

Here are a few more random inks that are water-resistant (ran under tap water for ~5 seconds, let dry):

Diamine Evergreen: the colors separate and bleed a little, but it remains readable. There appears to be a blue component that stays behind and resists smearing.

Diamine Ruby: I'd call it mildly water-resistant. Probably will remain readable, but it smears and bleeds quite a bit.

J. Herbin Amber de Birmanie: only smears slightly.

J. Herbin Lierre Sauvage: the green smears plenty but leaves a dark grayish line that doesn't smear or bleed.

Private Reserve Black Cherry: it smears and bleeds but remains readable.

Private Reserve Fiesta Red: it smears a little bit but resists quite well.

And some that are definitely not water-resistant:

Private Reserve Spearmint: don't expect to be able to read it after it gets wet.

Lamy Green: it turns into green clouds on the page. Good luck reading it.

Another waterproof and very permanent ink I love (one that is known more in calligraphy circles) is Magic Color, which is made in England. Paper & Ink Arts sells it. It is safe for fountain pens.

Yes! I wonder if the fpn moderators can pin this thread up?

It's linked from a pinned post at the top of the forum already. Obviously, pinning topics just wastes space, since nobody reads the pinned posts. :roflmho:

Well, I feel like a dope. I even scanned over the pinned section before posting, to see if it was there. I was looking for "waterproof," not "noteworthy topics." That threw me.

An acrylic ink in a fountain pen? Wow. I'd sure test it in some cheap ones first. It's hard to imagine that not clogging.

I think that Noodler's Coral Sea (Australian exclusive) and Sailor Sei-boku (blue-black pigment ink, sometimes listed as Kiwaguro blue-black) should be added to the list.
