fountain pen taboos - don't enter if you're easily offended

Somehow this is the first I have ever seen of this thread.

I do have a confession that may be hard for some people to accept but please try to be open and understanding:

I like flexible nibs and rigid nibs.

Can we still be friends?

I find that I can enjoy many different kinds of nibs. In some cases I have to adjust myself to the nib rather than demand the nib conform to me. Then new worlds open before mine eyes.

Please tell that to the IPG nib makers. They've managed to turn the fountain pen nib into an actual ball point.

nothing wrong about that, that's their business , you are not required to buy them , just as we made a choice to use mostly fountain pen instead of the more common ballpoint or gel pen , we can also made a choice to use whatever nib we might found suited

Pen makers that make a line of pens...then abruptly stop making that pen for no reason.
Every 6 months they have a new pen model and don't make the previous ones any longer.
I'm leaving Penbbs because of this...I refuse to play this stupid game.

oh, so right!! I've NEVER (I repeat never once) bought a BBS for that reason! The colour I want is never available!

If they think this "only few available get it while you can game" gets me to buy more pens, they've figured it out dramatically wrong!

😀😀😀They’d better be a rare beauty if they want to play “hard to get”!

ahah... they usually are not much more than pretty coloured cheap plastic pens, so that scheme does not hold up for me...

(shall we talk about your Etruria celluloids, instead?  :D )

Yeah, I'm done with their fake exclusivity bullcrap.
I used to think they were innovative and wonderful. They're trying to make themselves rare by not releasing any of the models people are asking for.
Well, they can go be rare over in china. I'm moving on to Opus-88 Demonstrators for now!
And if Opus-88 starts doing the same (bleep) or phasing themselves out...I'll head on over to Pilot, Pelikan or a big name in the Fountain Pen arena.
I'm such a friggin IDIOT for trying to make these crapass chinese pens into something wonderful.
Someone on here warned me months ago that you can't polish a turd...I should have listened.
😞

we all have our share of cheapies that later pile up in drawers...

don't feel too bad about it, we learn by mistakes, and only rarely learn from other people's mistakes :D

to some extent it's unavoidable and even useful, to build an own judgment.

There are a few hidden treasures here and there, but even in such cases it's subjective, and very much related to individual expectation.

Big name pens do have their hidden pitfalls too, so eyes open! ;)

Dare I admit it in public?  True confession: I like converters for my modern pens.

There.  I've said it.

If I ever saw this thread, I don’t remember it. I’ve gotten OLD since I joined here and now I complain about everything.....

I'm a pen mechanic.  I handle a lot of really nice pens, really expensive pens, fancy pens.  I like my Esterbrooks, and my Wing Sung 699s.  I also like my Pelikan 600 and 800, Pliot Elite, Vanishing points, Duofolds.....   But I tend to write with the Esterbrooks and 699s.

I have yet to find a gold nib that writes more smoothly than my favorite non-gold nibs: Esterbrook, Sheaffer palladium triumph, and Parker 51 Special.

For my confession; I'll echo this.

I prefer modern C/C pens - they're so beautifully easy to flush/maintain and you don't have to break into a cold sweat if the pen gets wet - like you do with ebonite, etc.

Why would a pen get wet??  (I wash out my caps because ink always seems to collect in them - I'll have to stop doing so many cartwheels).
