- Noodlers Ink: I am YET to get a bottle of ink that works well in any of my pens. But I keep falling for those colors! Maybe the next bottle will be different...

I can't stand the iconic arrow-shaped Parker clip.

Hear, hear. I've had a visceral dislike of those clips from my first sighting. I just do not see the appeal.

Would that I had the same reaction to too-good-to-be-true pen sales. ;)

:roflmho: I have to laugh because I absolutely love the Parker arrow clips. Solid, utilitarian, comforting. They're the herbed potatoes that complement the perfectly roasted prime rib that is a Parker pen.

I think that "Da Book" should be released for free online...

+1.

I only have two pens - an Aurora Optima and others.

Essensia,

Variety is the spice of life! Sort of mangling that aphorism's meaning, but I'm sure you know what I mean. Plus, our differing opinions help level the FP lovin' and collecting field: As I turn my head and fly by the Parkers, you can swoop in and give them great homes.

That uncircumcised comment was priceless. ::giggle::

I find most Waterman pens...boring. Except for my flashy vintage one. Ditto Mont Blanc (I don't have one.) Just meh.

I do not understand the appeal of the Sheaffer Targa.

But OS Sheaffer Balances are da bomb.

I absolutely hate C/C demonstrators, what's the point if I can't see the ink sloshing around the barrel?

I too don't see the point of buying too many cheap pens. I can understand up to a point because if you are seriously obsessed with trying out new ink colors all the time, having access to a handful of cheap pens that you can use to check out the various inks is very useful. But too many is just plain useless as far as I'm concerned. I'd much rather save that money and buy a really nice pen.

I don't understand people who own more than one of the same pen. What's the point? That's like owning more than one of the same car.

My go

This is my view Lamy Safaris are only considered good pens by those who are yet to try any others.

Love this thread, although never was able to go through all 25 pages.

1. Vintage is not for me.

2. I don't understand the appeal of the Lamy 2000. I am a designer. I much prefer modernity and don't deal well with nostalgic design reference. IE pens that are modern replicas of past models are simply not appealing to me. You'd think the Lamy 2000 is my perfect pen. It was one of the first pens I purchased when I got back into the hobby. Yet my Lamy 2000 has been sitting in it's box after like a day of use. There is something the pen just lacks to me. It's like the pen was designed like a machine with no soul.

Entertaining thread methinks :lticaptd:

Personally I find the P51 to be one of the fugliest pens I have ever seen.

I hate hooded nibs in general - what's the idea of writing with a fountain pen, if you can't see the nib; it's part of the show!

1--I can't understand why anyone likes heavy pens. It is beyond me.

2--A lot of showy fountain pens are tacky

i find Toldeos tacky, and those filgrette encased type of pens, tacky too, I actually find plain and elegant pens very favorable to my personality and mood.

For example 146 or 149, some Conway Stewarts, Some older american pens Parker etc Art Deco especially

some waterman lacquered body made it look like those gift shop pens you would expect to find at a dollar store. With a rare exception I actually adore waterman man 100 opera and harlequin.

Waterman Cerene looks like extension of a finger with a golden inlaid fingernail? (some of you may actually agree with me)

I once used a really cheap FP to remove a tab backings on my aspirin blisters. Isn't that evident that I had a bad day and needed an aspirin that day ?!

Some people quip about FP staining their fingers, to me, Its normal every day occurrence. Coming from a Calvary family Grandfather was a West Point Cav man, I liken the smell and the daily tasks to that.

I also agree about the Parker 51. I find it very overrated.

+1. Does not say much about the pen if they have to hide the nib. :)

At the time it was a technical innovation. It was new and modern looking. I don't think hooded nibs are particularly appealing looking but my P51s, Aurora 88 and OMAS 361 are all wonderful workhorses and I like that they don't draw attention.

Lamy Safari is the ugliest pen ever.

I don't like the safari either but the Montegrappa Chaos takes the title of ugliest pen / most hideous of all time.

Interesting thread.

My two cents: I think Parkers are ugly pens. At least, I haven't seen one that I thought was attractive.

Also, I think the clips on the Visconti look ridiculous.

Franklin-Christoph, Italix, and Pilot pens are the best!
Iroshizuku, Diamine, and Waterman inks are my favorites!

Apica, Rhodia, and Clairefontaine make great paper!

some countries just can't seem to get the good stuff...

uhh uhh... yeah I think there's that... I can't say about Parker 5x,6x series because AEROMETRIC... yeah AEROMETRIC CONVERTERS MUST BE THOUGHT OF WELL ENOUGH... in that

I DO NOT LIKE AEROMETRIC FILLERS...
