People who, in a website dedicated to fountain pens, decorate their profiles with pictures of their superexpensive cars, villas or watches. It's certainly ok to have all those if one likes and can afford them; but why put them on FPN...?

WTB: Pelikan Epoch saphire/jade/silver, Cross C-Series Monaco Blue, Cross Compact Magenta, Fuliwen Silver Ring orange or yellow (all with M/B nibs except for Fuliwen)

...it's like eating at McDonalds and then sharing your story...

4) People who bad mouth a pen or brand merely because they had one bad experience.

So, you must have had MULTIPLE bad experiences at McDonald's, eh? roflmho.gif

Hmmmm. Good question. I was about to say "but cats are free and not show-off items", but my last 2 cats were not from the shelter (as the ones before were) and cost more than I've ever spent on a FP, so there goes my argument...

So, calling on others to join in: should cat people be in the same category as the porsche/palace/patek philippe crowd?

I quite like the variety of pictures on display.

As it's a fountain pen forum, we can take the FP interest for granted.

If people choose to show us another glimpse of their interests, or how they wish to be perceived, that all adds to the variety of it.

I think we should do a poll, but I bet that 30 percent of the people on this forum are proud of their cats.

Now that is a good idea. That is why I like Monta Rosa pens; they are MB's in disguise.

As I have said Montblanc's are good solid pens when you ignore the image and hype. But the image is becoming too much fun. In some ways Montblanc's are a 'tool' thing to some, apparently on FPN it takes a real anarchist rebel to sport a Montblanc. Praising a Montblanc here is like wearing a suit and eating a hamburger upfront of a Santa Cruz hippie.

Please no offense; humor and obnoxiousness go together like beer n' pizza sometimes.

WOW I APOLOGIZE DEARLY! I MISUNDERSTOOD YOUR COMMENTS! Sorry for the response, I just realized what you meant.

Forget what I posted here before

Actually, I like Montblancs, I just fundamentally disagree with the whole concept of a "luxury" good. And, by opposite, I meant opposite to the OP, not to the general population.

No hard feelings; please. I was agreeing and disagreeing with you. I agree with the description of the pen; I find those characteristics appealing. I also am agreeing with you when you said, that complaining keeps the prize down; they are getting marked down, and thats probably why. In the beginning, it seemed that you felt criticizing Montblanc was an act of rebellion. I was disagreeing with that, because as we have seen, a lot of people really dislike MB's on FPN. I also did not mean that you, or any individual was a Santa Cruz hippie. I was making an analogy about what might be common and normal for someone, though offensive and bad to someone else.

I really like my 149, though I have my criticisms of Mont Blanc as well. The pens are great, though I dislike that they over-market their name and snow flake. You see the snow flake on wallets and watches and heaven knows what else. There are also some people who show off their pens too much. But I understand that; its natural in the beginning, after a few months you get over it. Also you cant resent Mont Blanc to much; they had a lot of hardship in the beginning, with poverty, two world wars, and a co-founder who turned out to be dishonest. I am also becoming fascinated with peoples animosity of the pen. I like Mont Blanc's, but I do not feel they are the end all pen.

Enjoy your pen when you get it,

Maxwell

you sure did, bushido

vintage cars STINK and no amount of air freshener will change that

(btw my new car stinks too since my cat peed in it, but that to me is like a baystate blue stain on a white pelikan pen to others)

I think the Parker '51' is the most overrated vintage pen ever, groundbreaking design, yes, None the less I don't really like it.

...

Overrated yes, tremendously. But groundbreaking design? It is not designed in the first place. And ugly as sin. Instead have a look at any Krone, and there you have what I call design!

My pet gripes. No offence intended, people:

Modern Parkers - very uninspiring designs in general

Pen Boutiques - clueless staff and prohibitive prices

c/c fillers - why? oh why?

metal sections - slip, slip, slip, ugly, ugly, ugly

Mont Blancs - not because they are bad, which they are surely not, but because of their obscene price point, and their whole precious resin... (okay, I'll stop, its been done to death)

Badly made pens of any kind that do not justify the price point

and, as a final contender:

Jean Pierre Lepine pens - seriously? What was he smoking?

*sighs in relief*
