Waterman Flair ballpoint refills are very very hard to come by - but apparently the Cartier Must / Vendome refill which is still made by Cartier will fit - I have one on order for my Flair - and will post if it is a successful fit !!

I purchased a cartier vendome refill but unfortunately it does not fit - the hole at the top of the refill is not large enough to accept the waterman retracting mechanism - I am now at a loss - I emailed Sanford in US but they did not reply !! any suggestions ?

The Titane (Flared) Refill Solution. Hi everyone! When I won an eBay bid for a beautiful gold Waterman fountain & ballpoint pen set, I did not expect to see a Titane refill that has not been in production for 20 years (Waterman should be ashamed for not supporting their products with refills). A Google search turned up only 1 Titane refill supplier on eBay and I immediately ordered 4 of the 10 he had left. I did not anticipate that he would knowingly ship me dried out refills. I realized then that whomever had 20-year-old refills in new condition had new dried-out refills and as an inventor, I had to do something (for all of us:-). 30 minutes latter I had a ballpoint pen that wrote better than it did when it was new. As the attached photos show I simply took a Cross refill, and using a wire-cutter, I cut-off the plastic end right below the threads. Using the threaded end of the plastic section (i.e. the part the screws the refill into the Cross pen) I cut a ring less than2-threads deep and then slipped it over the tip of the refill and slid it up to the top. Cutting the plastic section away distorted the top of the refill in a way that, when I squeezed it back to a round shape, had a small flare that prevented the ring from sliding off. The results were perfect. As the cut Cross refill is exactly the same size as the Titane, I believe that, with the right tool, Ill be able to flare its top and eliminate the ring. If I succeed I'll post it. In the meantime; at about $1.00 per refill on eBay you can afford to experiment. Good luck... Barry

There's one more step, of some sort, to be taken. I followed the same path a few years ago in order to get a refill into a Waterman Sapphire BP -- and when the open-ended Cross refill warmed up, it dumped its ink into the interior of the pen, and my pocket! So, it needs some sort of plug that won't cause a vacuum-lock as the ink level goes down.

Wow, I never thought of that but I do have a recommended solution that I'll try when I get my Cross-compatible replacements. It seems to me the perfect plug is to cut off the the end of a Cross-compatible refill, reverse it so that the ball end is facing up and sunk just below the flair, and then SUPER-glue it. I'll try it to see if it works. It should work because the tip's O.D. is fractionally-smaller than the tube's I.D. and Super Glue will seal in any opening. What I can't (i.e. won't do) do is test in under pocket heat. conditions:-)... Barry

QUESTION: Is the little flag under my picture supposed to be an American flag (i.e I live in Atlanta, GA, USA) because it's not. Perhaps it has something to do with where I'm standing in the photo; i.e. on the Great Wall of China:-)

It is the State flag of Georgia. Mine does the same thing! :)

Hi, when setting up your profile you must have chosen "Georgia" as your flag. If you would rather show the USA flag, you can change that in your profile....

I recently acquired a Man 21 ballpoint and, not surprisingly, the refill it had was dry. I would like to thank everyone on this thread for their help. I was able to use a Cross refill that I cut at 95mm and, with a metal tool, I flared the end. I found that it didn't need the small washer described above. In fact, I couldn't get the mechanism to close with the little ring around the refill. I sealed the refill with a plug of kneadable eraser and superglue on top of that. It works just fine.
