Visconti Blue

Great review! I enjoyed it very much. I have been using Visconti Blue in my Homo Sapiens and I love it. I agree 100% about the brightness and vibrancy of this ink. Using it on yellow notepaper gives an impressive contrast. Granted this is the only real blue I've tried so far (If you don't count Iroshizuku Tsuki yo), but I can see this being the benchmark by which I judge all other blue inks.

My Inks: Iroshizuku Tsuki Yo, Iroshizuku Ku Jaku, Iroshizuku Shin Ryoku, Iroshizuku Tsyu Kusa, Visconti Blue, Stipula Calamo, Pelikan Black

How does this compare to Waterman's Florida Blue?

It's completely different. Compared to FL Blue Visconti Blue is several shades darker, more saturated, andbrighter.

On the other hand, on some cheap papers, Visconti (and Diamine and PR, and Noodlers...) feather and bleed badly, while Waterman Florida Blue behaves perfectly.

I've used Visconti Blue on any number of papers from phenomenal to scrap cheap paper. I've never experience anything but the mildest of feathering or bleeding.

Agreed! I just tested it on various cheap paper that I have (even envelopes from junk mail) and it held up very well.

i kinda like DC supershow better!

i find that sometimes Visconti blue comes out almost like waterman fla... and i keep telling myself it's due to the ink residue left from the previous load... but i know i cleaned the pen well and this doesn't happen with the PR DCSS!!! :hmm1:

I would have to agree with everything except that I found it rather dry. I have the cartridges so maybe they are a little different? Normally, my go to blue would be J. Herbin Sapphire Blue but agree that the color of the Visconti is more pleasing (not wild about the purple tones prevalent in most blue inks). Regardless, I would definitely consider it one of the better blues.

You lovely people here have convinced me to add visconti blue to the top of my list for next inks to buy, when I run out of what I'm rocking at the moment.

(I just bought 3 bottles of J Herbin Inks, and I have others left so it may be a while yet before I get my hands on this, however I am looking forward very much to giving this a run!)

Considering I just bought a homo sapiens

Nice blue, but I'd have to say my favorite is Aurora Blue, followed by Mont blanc blue

I thought I already said this here -- so it must have been somewhere else -- but this ink is one of my 1-2-3 very most favourite blue inks.

Thanks for the review. I am a blue purist, and purchased a bottle on your recommendation. Wow! It's all true. More saturated than Waterman FL blue.

So the question is: Does anyone make a nice WATERPROOF blue? I've tried a number of them, but nothing compares with the Waterman or Visconti blues. Just got a bottle of Swisher Aquamarine blue, a free flowing, lighter blue. Nice, but not there. Sailor's Nano Blue Black is too slate. I'll just keep looking.

Thanks again.

It is one of only 2 inks in my collection that I will replace once the bottle is used up. Fantastic.

:hmm1: So what is the other one?

I just refilled A Waterman Phineas with it. Has anyone ever spilled the bottle? The narrow base of the Visconti Blue makes me nervous and VERRRRY careful.

If you have the old-style glass bottle with the cardboard box, then keep it in its box.

If you have the new-style plastic bottle, use Blu-Tack or equivalent* to stick the stem to the base of the container.

If you have lost your container, use the Blu-Tack to stick it to your desk. Works for Noodler's and other equivalent bottles as well.

Eschew duct tape. Use Blu-Tack.

* Yellow-tack, Green-tack, etc. I prefer the Green-tack, it works better, and is 1/5th the cost. I have yet to see red-tack, purple-tack or black-tack.
