Visconti Blue

I can't believe I haven't put this review up yet. Visconti Blue is HANDS DOWN my favorite straight blue ink. It is one of only 2 inks in my collection that I will replace once the bottle is used up. Fantastic.

 

The details:

 

* Visconti Blue is a Medium Dark straight blue. It does not lean green or red or anything else. It's just blue. What sets it apart is the vibrancy of it. It jumps off the page at you, but not enough to be offensive. I see this is the perfect professional ink.

* There is no bleeding or feathering. It actually performs fairly well on cheap copy paper, which is always a plus.

* Flow and lubrication of this ink is just perfection so far as I am concerned. All of my pens love this ink. Very wet writing and saturated.

* The drying time is also a bit better than average at just under 5 secs. I've never had any smudging issue with it.

* You aren't really going to find any shading here, but for this ink I don't care.

* It stands up pretty well to the odd water spill (speaking from experience there ). The writing remains quite legible though some of the blue does wash away.

 

 

All in all this is a fantastic blue and a mainstay in my collection.

Any idea how this holds up upon contact with water?

Dizzypen, thanks for your review! Visconti blue washes off very easily. It is a lovely, vibrant, brilliant blue. It flows well, and is enjoyable to write with. The small, plastic bottles evaporate quickly. Nice ink, nice price, and having a spare glass bottle to put it in helps.

So far, in my experience, Visconti is THE perfect all-around blue, much prettier than Waterman, and a worthy successor to Omas Roma 2000.

The only other blue I have found to match that is Iroshizuku Asa-Gao, and the price difference is not worth it. I am now awaiting Diamine Sapphire, so we'll see how that compares.

I have a couple of pens that were pretty dry writers with other inks but write perfectly with this ink. I'm going to have to buy some more of this.

Has anyone else noticed that it is the only blue that has an actual shine to it, almost slick looking?

 

And does it really evaporate from the plastic bottle?

It's completely different. Compared to FL Blue Visconti Blue is several shades darker, more saturated, andbrighter.

I have only tried the carts, and maybe that's the problem, but I've found it to be a bit weak/insipid. I much prefer Pilot Blue or Diamine Majestic Blue.

It must be the carts. I don't see how Vis Blue could ever be described as weak or insipid...

Pulling up a slightly old thread to praise Visconti Blue. Just got a bottle yesterday, and this stuff is phenomenal. As the OP says, it's just a straight, vibrant blue with no leanings toward green or purple. Really a gorgeous and well behaved ink. Can't believe it took me so long to obtain it, especially considering I have four other Visconti inks.

On the other hand, on some cheap papers, Visconti (and Diamine and PR, and Noodlers...) feather and bleed badly, while Waterman Florida Blue behaves perfectly.
