I too have about 12 Royal Blue jars of Skrip with the old inkwell. The problem is that nearly all of the caps are rusted. So I did some research and found that 43/400 caps were the right size for the inkwells.

I was able to find a place that didn't charge an extra fee for small orders (www.bottlesolutions.com) and purchased several metal caps with liners.

When they arrive, I'll let everyone know if they fit. Maybe I'll even create some labels with the old "Skrip TIGHTEN CAP TIP BOTTLE TO FILL THE WELL" image and stick em on the top :)

They fit perfectly. They're not the domed top of the traditional Skrip cap and of course they don't have the labeling on the top. Here's a photo:

I currently have a 4 oz. old skrip bottle, and have a vintage 2 oz. bottle on the way that I just purchased. I will be able to see once the new one arrives, but does anyone know if the 4 oz. has a larger cap size than the 2 oz. that jshiao measured was a 43/400 size? And if so, what the size is for the 4 oz.? I'd like to get some new caps for these bottles.

(I did do the trick of making a new liner out of a plastic plate, but the ink really sticks to that, so I thought I'd just get a few new caps if I could)

Yes, the 4 oz bottle has a bigger lid than the 2 oz (quick cell phone pic, just to show the size dif):

Thanks, Harlequin!

I did measure my 4 oz. bottle and cap to try to get a size, but I'm still not sure what size it is.

The 4 oz. bottle has a diameter from thread to thread of 46 mm, a diameter excluding the threads of 44 mm, and its cap seemed to have a diameter from the inside of its threads of 45 mm. I haven't found any 46-400 or 44-400 bottle caps, so perhaps it would actually be 45-400 (which I have found)?

Try it and let me know, b/c I just got another 4 oz bottle today that has a rather rusted cap, even with some incredibly small holes, lol. But, I don't mind using a regular non Skrip branded lid on it, as long as it would work.

I ordered a few different cap sizes last week, and just got them in today. Here are the cap sizes that work with my old skrip bottles:

2 oz. bottle: 43-400 cap size

4 oz. bottle: 48-400 cap size

They fit my old bottles great! (though don't look as good without the Sheaffer print. Oh, well)

Thanks, I needed that info actually as I am going to be trying to find a lid replacement here soon. Those are metal caps, not plastic, right? On a side note, I wonder if making a stencil of the Skrip labeling from the top of another bottle and then just using that to spray paint it onto the new caps would be too difficult... hmmm.

Out of curiosity, did you get the lids from the site jhsiao linked?

I have many 2oz bottles of Vintage Skrip Ink. Not all of the bottles, have the Skrip logo and writing on the lid. Some that I have, do, some that I have don't. Most of the Vintage bottles of Skrip that I have are in English and also in French. Destine originally for Canada, perhaps?

Do you mean the writing on the lid/label is in French also? any chance of a pic of one of those?

Are there any places in Europe (websites) where I could buy a vintage Sheaffer ink bottle?

They were remodeling the Councillors (sp?) office several years ago and found this 16 oz bottle behind a wall and gave it to me. It was nearly full then. I have been using the ink for years. I was at a watchmakers to pick up a watch he cleaned for me and he gave me a case of the old bottles on the right. They were in the basement of an old Drugstore that had been closed for a couple decades. Some of them still have ink in them but I don't have the nerve to try to use that ink. It's probably 80 years old and the corks have shrunk so they don't fit tight anymore. I gave a lot of those bottles away to friend/fellow pen enthusiasts. The other two with the well are ones I found in antique stores.

If you need a cap for one of the 2 ounce bottles, the plastic cap from a 2 ounce Private Reserve ink bottle works great.

I needed a couple replacement caps for the 4oz Skrip bottles, and I found some!  Unfortunately, they came in a bag of 60.

I now have a supply for several lifetimes.  If anybody wants some, just pm me, I want to share.

Schaeffer is now using that bottle again, you can get it at

Atlas Stationers in Chicago. I just now ordered a bottle of

what is now called inferno red. It's not on the website so

you must call, as the merchandise is so new to the store.
