does anyone still have any of the old Sheaffer ink bottles with the little compartment at the top to fill your snorkel from?

ive recently bought some Sheaffer ink and the bottles have changed. i realise this happened years ago, but if anyone is finishing off one of those old style bottles, dont throw it out, send it to me!

thanks,

Paolo.

If you search ebay for "Sheaffer Skrip Bottles" you can still find old ones-- if someone is generous enough to actually give you one, you must care for it as if it were worth $50.00 and rising in value. Tell everyone in your family of its value and scarcity. (Don't let an over-tidy spouse chuck it into recycling.)

hee! that's cool.. I got a bottle from my uncle a few weeks ago and didn't bother looking in the box.. My bottle has the little compartment as well. :) That's SO cool!

Oh, no! I didn't mean to offend! Personal story only of having not told my husband that a rare and precious bottle on my desk should not be part of his retirement sweep-and-recycle activities. I now tell him that every empty jar or bottle on my desk is worth $50 and will soon become museum-worthy. And to stay off my desk. And to not throw out anything from anywhere in the house without showing it to me first.

Recently, after hearing of this recycling tragedy, a neighbor generously gave me one of her two used Skrip Bottles with the snorkel-well to replace the one my husband had tossed. In her presence I was able to demonstrate to my husband that her gift was not valued at "free", of interest only to someone of my eccentricities; but in fact valuable the world over.

In fact and however, I now find that I must reduce my collection of miscellany as I will lose 50% of my space. I will happily send this bottle into your care. A gift to me can now be a gift to you. My neighbor will be pleased that it made its way to someone who actually has a snorkel. PM and I will send.

Hi SueEllen, dont worry, no offense taken, just want to clarify that i intend to look after it.

thanks so much for the offer of yours, but its cherished and has a good home, so you should keep it.

im thinking more of people who are going to chuck it out once empty, and that i can save it and put it to use again. :)

I've used a thin styrofoam plate as a substitute seal. Just put the Skrip lid over the plate, trace around it, cut it out and pop it in. They work better than the original seals, which are often so decayed they're unusable. Those sure were the BEST ink bottles - don't know why other manufacturers haven't followed their lead!

I know several pen shops in Mexico City which still sell these bottles (NOS) at a regular price, I mean, around 10 US Dollars...

I'll have to try this again. I tried it once before but the ink all dried out of the bottle, so the seal must have no worked.

A vendor at one of the local antique malls has had the Skrip bottle in their case on a regular basis. The first two I bought had ink in the bottles, but the current one is an empty bottle and box. Their price is $5.00 !! I can't see myself buying an empty when the last two were full (even though I don't need more ink or bottles).

I have two of these that I know where they are (still with ink in them) and another two that are in a box someplace in my house or storage locker. One is the WWII era "V-Black, for 'V' Mail" Skrip, but I have been advised not to actually use it (I have yet to take the cap off and give it a look/sniff, it may be full of fungus.) If you get in touch with Fred Krinke at the LA Pen Shop, he may have a few that he will sell you. :)

I chanced upon two NOS bottles with the inkwell in the red Skrip carton.. .Nice., but it was very tough getting the cap off on one bottle.

In case you wish to write to me, pls use ONLY email by clicking here. I do not check PMs. Thank you.

I know what you mean. I just saw an empty one for $5 yesterday and really had to resist buying it. Of course, if it had ink in it I would have bought it. Even if it had a label and a box I would have bought it. It's not like I need it or anything...

I've got a blog!

I too have about 12 Royal Blue jars of Skrip with the old inkwell. The problem is that nearly all of the caps are rusted. So I did some research and found that 43/400 caps were the right size for the inkwells.

I was able to find a place that didn't charge an extra fee for small orders (www.bottlesolutions.com) and purchased several metal caps with liners.

When they arrive, I'll let everyone know if they fit. Maybe I'll even create some labels with the old "Skrip TIGHTEN CAP TIP BOTTLE TO FILL THE WELL" image and stick em on the top :)
