The lemon yellow (lemon sherbet Dinkie?) is my favorite in that picture.

I have one too. Quite like it.

I have a thing for yellow pens. The brighter the better. Ever since I decided to fight my cancer with everything I'd got, including manuka honey, colour therapy and positive thinking, yellow has been the most upbeat colour for me to surround myself with. So using a yellow FP to write with when I'm having an off-day, is for me at least, very theraputic.

I have several yellow FPs including the Bexley Submariner, a matching VP FP and BP set (I'd never seen a VP ballpoint before getting this one in a trade!), an Estie purse pen, and a gold Decimo.

The only pen that some might class as gaudy that I own, was sent to me as a gift recently. Its the Visconti Ragtime 20th Anniversary LE. I love the gold dust embedded into it!! And the blingy gold section!!

I detest gaudy pens, but define "gaudy" as ornate or showy in a tasteless sort of way. Bright colors alone do not make a pen look tacky. The David Oscarson pens are a good example. Many of his pens are brightly colored, yet are beautiful works of art. Grayson Tighe's pens are ornate, fancy and examples of the very finest craftsmanship. "Cheap" and "cheesy" are not words that apply to any of his pens, ever. Many of the Chinese pens, on the other hand, are both very flashy and quite tasteless. Krone pens are generally awful when it comes to aesthetics. Blech!

Namiki Falcon and Cross Apogee both come in red, but still manage to look classy.

All IMHO, of course.

I had a look at the Krone pens website (which didn't work very well) and I agree with you. I suppose everybody has their own taste but from what I've seen they count as gaudy for me.

jar, you are making me rethink the whole "gaudy" thing! :roflmho:

I sort of like them all except the lemon yellow one.

And photographing the pen with candy is genius :clap1:

But how about the Inky Dinkie in its native habitat?

I like a warm yellow like Post it notes ?Canary Yellow. I could like that with rose gold fittings perhaps...hmm... (I don't think I'd like rhodium trim with it).

Hope you are not having too many off-days tawanda

I'm not even an grasshopper photographer.

Marbled pens though are not always bad.

Every pen is probably beautiful to someone...

My close encounter with a Gaudy pen that I've grown to treasure recently is the Bexely Celebration in Mardi Gras (Yellow, Purple, Green, Gold.... you get the idea). I bought it second hand for the Stub nib.

The nib is spectacular. The pen remains butt ugly, but has grown on me.

I am no longer totally afraid that someone might see me with it in hand in public...

Being that yesterday was Fat Tuesday and this is / was the Mardi Gras period... it did get a bit more public use recently than it might have otherwise. :bunny01:

That sounds like the right setting for a pen like that OiRogers. What ink do you use in it? HoD?

Currently inked and in use with Baystate Blue (Horrors!)... had Noodler's Zhivago and Nightshade in it at various points in the past two weeks. Wonderful pen... shame I have to wear sunglasses to look at it in a bright room.

Its made from a solid rod of silver with an inlaid guilloche design covered by 14 layers of yellow enamel and then gold plated. Its a work of art and was the last pen that bore the Faberge logo produced by Michel Perchin its not gaudy its gorgeous and a pleasure to own

Just going off topic a bit, I see you have a collection of Pilot Iroshizuku inks, and I was wondering how the Momji performs. I've already got the Yama-Budo, and I've got Noodlers Fox Red (foxy red as my friend says!)., the yama-budo is great and I like the colour of the Noodlers but it feathers or dries slowly or something that stops me using it. Well I'd like to know about the Momji - any info you can give?

Wow it does sound like an artwork. Didn't mean to offend you, my apologies. Just giving my personal opinion I guess.
