i agree with a few of you the krone makes some of the gaudiest pens around. even the themes they hock is gaudy, capitalizing on other people's fame for their gain.

Looking at the photos of the LA pen show, I was surprised at the number of brightly coloured pens. I'm going to go so far as to call them gaudy. I've only got one gaudy looking pen myself, a bronze GT Bexley Simplicity that looks almost orange. It's just as well it's a nice writer or it'd never see the light of day. I guess it is just personal preference...

Does anyone have a thing for brightly coloured pens...?

(apologies if I offend anyone!)

I have a "negative thing" for gaudy pens. I love my Pelikan 600, but I hate the gold-colored decoration. I don't want people to stare at my pen when I start writing. Wish it had the older rounded top on the cap, not gold-like stripes and flashiness. (Of course, sometimes I'll pull out my wonderful green Esterbrook J during a meeting. People think it is a new sort of metallic fiber-tip.)

What do you consider brightly colored? If they are in neon colors then I would pass, the whole neon trend right now does nothing for me except bring back bad childhood memories of 80s and early 90s fashion. I love classic looking pens though in colors that look like vintage celluloid, I like those types of patterns too. Classic filigrees are very nice too, it seems nowadays they cannot do them without going over the top.

I'd rather spend my money on pens instead of shoes and handbags.

I would have to look at some flecked pens to be sure but I have my doubts about them.

Here's flecked amethyst:

That looks not too bad...

I think to be more precise it's the marbled effect ones that really get me puzzled as to who would want them

Is this gaudy?

That's beautiful! :puddle:

With the new FPN rules, now I REALLY don't know what to put in my signature.

I'm not sure where on the spectrum gaudy ends and pens just look very nice.

The NoNonsense at the top is obviously gaudy, even garish. The Targa Feather next to it certainly draws the eye and gets comments. The platinum-plated S. T. Dupont Fidelio at the bottom seems quite sedate and the others fall somewhere in between.

The LA Pen Show did have a lot of pens period, gaudy as well as classic. IMHO everyone needs a gaudy pen, at least one.

Yes I have one gaudy pen!

Don't you think the Bexley Simplicity is a bit gaudy...? Funny thing is I have grown to like it and do use it regularly. It's my MB violet pen.

a pen i almost bought that most of you might think is gaudy is the caran d'ache buddha. i actually think it's rather unique and worth owning.

I had a look at a photo of one... I find it a bit scary, all those faces looking out at you! lol Also, would it not be kind of heavy?

jar, you are making me rethink the whole "gaudy" thing! :roflmho:

I sort of like them all except the lemon yellow one.

And photographing the pen with candy is genius :clap1:

No. It's not gaudy. It's brown.
