Gaudy looking pens

What about the Platinum Koi. It's one of the few gaudy pens I'd covet.

Yesterday is history.

Tomorrow is a mystery.

Today is a gift.

That's why it's called the present

do they (the previous and this one) qualify as gaudy? If so I am guilty!

I don't count this pen as well as your favorite as gaudy. Gaudy are *some* of the Visconti overlays. (Runs for cover.)

Unfortunately, I think the gold colour on Diplamat pens is gaudy. It's a kind of cheap blingy gold. Pens great/gold gaudy. Of course the Simoni and sadly the latest Bexley Owners Club

Thanks

Does anyone have a thing for brightly coloured pens...?

Obviously many people do ... I'm just not one of them. I'm pretty much a greyscale guy with forays into dark blues and greens. I can't say I automatically classify marble as "gaudy" though. It depends on the colour scheme. For example I find the Sailor Mosaic Green very attractive. I still can't believe Bexley thought this was a good idea.

Oh my, I really wished you hadn't posted that link. That pen is going to give me nightmares. ;)

(apologies if I offend anyone!)

Black is for sissies. So's brown.

So are non-bright colors.

:)

That said, the Bexley Jazzy Green is a bit much even for me....

Vintage Dept. here. Classic Parker Duofold Big Reds are pretty flashy, and I love mine. I also love the Wahl Eversharp Skyline I just got, that's got a dark-purple barrel (misnamed burgundy) and a striated cap with a gold-pearl ground and black-edged bright red stripes. Tasteful indoors, but in full sun it's a dazzler. I also like striking patterns like Moore diagonal-hatched pearl white and black that also shows up on Conway Stewart and other pens. Just got a Conklin Glider with a wavy pattern of contrasting brown and gold pearl, that's a pleasantly gaudy sort of pen to me. Rather like Ingrid Bergman in a fancy dress as opposed to Lady Gaga.

Hope springs eternal.

LOL, it reminds me of the guitars from the 80s...

That would be me (although I think Deirdre has me beaten by a mile). The only black pen I own was a gift. My others are every color imaginable, with a preponderance of purple. I also have lots of colorful demonstrators/transparent pens.

Yes, I think many of them would be considered gaudy. But I really like bright colors and shiny objects. :cloud9:

Kristi

Shiny is good. Purple too (but not marbled) lol

Do you use black ink?

Nope. I own a bottle (Noodlers Borealis Black), but I got it free when I went to the NC pen show a couple of years ago. My least gaudy color is Legal Lapis, but most of my pens are inked with bright, frequently contrasting, inks. Someone questioned my use of orange/red ink (Yu-Yake) in my new Stipula Passaporte (clear with green swirls), but I thought it looked interesting. :roflmho:

I do have an amethyst flecked Conway Stewart, but that's not the same as marbled, is it?

:roflmho: now there's "interesting" and but then again there is Major Colour Clash!

I would have to look at some flecked pens to be sure but I have my doubts about them.

I might make an exception in Sailor's case here - and call it only slightly gaudy... But this is because I'm a Sailor fan and mostly their stuff is classy.

On the other hand Jazzygreen is a case in point. No way whould I get that.

I detest gaudy pens, but define "gaudy" as ornate or showy in a tasteless sort of way. Bright colors alone do not make a pen look tacky. The David Oscarson pens are a good example. Many of his pens are brightly colored, yet are beautiful works of art. Grayson Tighe's pens are ornate, fancy and examples of the very finest craftsmanship. "Cheap" and "cheesy" are not words that apply to any of his pens, ever. Many of the Chinese pens, on the other hand, are both very flashy and quite tasteless. Krone pens are generally awful when it comes to aesthetics. Blech!

Namiki Falcon and Cross Apogee both come in red, but still manage to look classy.

All IMHO, of course.

I forgot the Think Jimi Hendrix LE Fountain pen. To some it will look gaudy. I bought two and love them more than my Chopin. Some would think it gaudy in the sense that some find the Koi gaudy.

Thanks

I love gaudy pens, though I think of them as 'bright' or 'wild,' not gaudy.

One of yesterday's topics on Pentrace was "wild pens." Here is the pic I posted.
