What Does Your Handwriting Look Like

Mickey, (I had lot's of tasteless comments to carpentry candidate, which I will try to avoid), but what is the real difference between drawing and writing?

I'm sure someone could give a better more rigorous answer, but the fast and dirty answer is the degree of embedding. In writing, once the skills for a particular hand are acquired, the connection between a symbol and the muscular recipe for its creation map more or less one to one: think the letter, the muscles produce it. Consequently, these hands are written at a relatively quick pace. The deeper the embedding, either because of practice, or because the design of the hand permits it, the faster it can be written.

Drawn hands, like Engravers script, are created slowly, the various strokes separately executed. The pen is guided along its path. The paper is often reoriented to make or facilitate strokes which are not otherwise possible or reliable. Etc.

All hands begin drawn, but, once a fair amount of skill is acquired, most practical hands become written.

Under this definition, some hands, like Copperplate or Ornamental Penmanship (Spencerian) beg the question slightly, but only slightly. I invite others to make more lucid or scholarly comment, but to borrow the words of the late Supreme Court justice Potter Stewart, "I know it when I see it."

Oh! And please never refer me to anything attributed to A. Lloyd Webber. It's a sure way of making an enemy. I prefer my Puccini fresh.

The liberty of the press is indeed essential to the nature of a free state; but this consists in laying no previous restraints upon publications, and not in freedom from censure for criminal matter when published. Every freeman has an undoubted right to lay what sentiments he pleases before the public; to forbid this, is to destroy the freedom of the press; but if he publishes what is improper, mischievous or illegal, he must take the consequence of his own temerity. I like to have an extended piece of text to practise with beyond the ubiquitous quick brown fox, so some time ago I memorised the opening of Our Mutual Friend.

Lamy Vista EF, Diamine Majestic Blue.

(for some reason I cannot paste an image directly into a post and instead have to attach images - i have no idea why: it's frustrating).

What color ink is in your post about CATS?

My latest ebook.   And not just for Halloween!

My other pen is a Montblanc.

Not reproducible.

First, it's on a metallic paper which gives it a gold sheen, but the ink is a mix. It contained Polar Green, a Private Reserve yellow, left over greens from samples, and the last of the Noodler's eel green when I didn't want to flush the pen. If you are really in love with it, I'll send you the paper and a sample from the TWSBI bottle that holds the mixed ink.

Many you have some fantastic handwriting. My regular writing and cursive is atrocious so I write in all caps. My letters aren't very consistent but they get the job done. The sample below is from my Pelikan M600, EF Nib. Mont Blanc Midnight Blue Ink. Maruman Mnemosyne Inspiration Notebook.

GClef, I'm glad you're back to inking, though I see you still have that ballpoint.

Very much work-in-(lack of)-progress, but here it is,

You have great handwriting. I tried to improve my handwriting but for so nice and equal letters I have still a lot of work.

As the refrain goes ... you have lovely hand writing!

And I love your capital H's and M's. They look almost Cyrillic to me. Is that common in Polish hand writing?

When it comes to overall, it is difficult to say. But I have met a few people who write these letters in a similar way.

I'm amazed with the lines variations that GClef get with ballpoints.

It's almost sobrenatural...

My first upload to this site.

I like experimenting with different styles. This is just because, without being too precious about it.

Lamy Vista 1.5mm, Diamine Grape.

ShinyDemon,

I like your handwriting a lot. The ink choice is very nice too.
