On one boring weekend I grabbed my calligraphy practice pad and start writing the capital names.

As one does on boring weekends! LOL

Your sample is absolutely gorgeous! Oh my, there are some talented people on FPN!!!

I've been watching this topic for so long, I started feeling bad for not adding my own handwriting to the mix...

here it is:

The poem sort of fits my handwriting even if some of the letters don't. For better or worse though, it how I write. I truly love some of the works on here - they're so lovely and fluid. Thanks all for creating a very inspiring topic!

I'll add my embarrassing scrawl to the thread... I am very intrigued and inspired by the quality of penmanship I have seen here. I have worked hard to improve my own for the past year, but I haven't seen much improvement in the past couple months.

Introducing my daily scrawl - who can read it?

No problem! Can read every word!

I love that red-black ink. What kind of ink is it???

I have no experience with flexible nibs at all, but one of my medium nibbed pens has some flex to it so I decided to experiment, here's the rather clumsy result. My regular handwriting's at the bottom.

The clumsy caps are beautiful.

Wowww... seriously? No prob with Baystate Blue? Maybe the pen helps... My Baystate Blue is pretty much retired since its first refill. :-)

That's my handwriting in Baystate blue:

OMG, I love that reddish-black ink!!! I am looking to buy one online now... :-)

Anna, I really admire both of your styles; flex or no flex! I especially like the shading of the ink in your regular handwriting sample - would you mind sharing what sort of ink you were using? Thanks! :)

Thank you  The bottom sample is written in Waterman Havana Brown with a Pelikan M200 (OB nib). Here's another sample with the same pen/ink combination. Unfortunately my Greek is rather less elegant but as I started writing I was amazed I still knew this by heart...

And I'm still trying to copy that gorgeous handwriting two weeks later... highly unsuccessfully, I might add. At this point, I'd be happy if my handwriting was more legible... even to me, for starters.

I've started to have to do some handwritten submissions in some of my classes in University. When I got a multitude of compliments on my cursive and how beautiful it looked it really made me realize what a dying art it is. Wish I could write as nice as some of you guys!

So, I, uh, I wrote you guys a note. An enormous one.

I don't know what the general consensus around here is on giving younger brothers pens as gifts for high school graduation, but I went with the three-dollar pen so that if he hates it or destroys it we won't feel bad, and I won't be rude and say, "JUST LET ME HAVE IT BACK," like I would with a twenty-dollar pen. (I am not nearly wealthy enough to think about paying more than that for a pen right now!) He has terrible handwriting, so I'm also sort of hoping a fountain pen will prompt him to improve. (Writing him letters doesn't really work as well as one would hope.)

I really need to stop writing novels when I'm not trying. Give me a bit and I'll be back with a different pen and a copy of a poem.

Here we are. This is a Levenger Decathlon. It was a gift; I'd never be able to get one for myself! The ink is Parker, because I have a bottle lying around. As you can see, it's a little easier to read what I write when I use a finer nib. I should learn to open up and write bigger, perhaps.

  • 2 weeks later...

Pincel, I wish my handwriting looked like that!

I'm posting my handwriting as it looks, warts and all, in most of my notebooks and all of my uni notes (written while listening to a lecturer). It's my "normal", fast hand - it keeps up with my thoughts (especially if I'm writing a story, or poetry) and is intelligible to me but probably not many other people. My favourite style of writing is definitely Copperplate, and I've practiced that a little (and participated in the Copperplate thread here on FPN) - but it's definitely more for relaxation and the pleasure of writing something that looks nice, rather than a go-to, every day hand. Still... hope springs eternal, maybe one day my normal handwriting will look as good as some of the samples included on this thread!
