Thank you sooo much! :D

I strongly recommend the (Inexpensive) Manuscript range of Italic pens.

+1 I learned to write with a fountain pen with Manuscript's nibs, very nice italics and virtually no scratching. Works great for a wide range of styles and writing sizes. Too bad I got the all-plastic one and not something a bit more hefty.

For sheer pleasure I always land up with my Manuscript pens!

However, it would be so nice if they made a more sturdy pen. Mine are constantly breaking and I have to buy new ones - perhaps that is the strategy I don't know, but I so enjoy an italic and especially the Manuscript nibs!

I am completely new to this forum, but I have been lurking for a few weeks. I was recently inspired to improve my handwriting. It has been terrible my whole life. After reading one article, I realized that no one had taken the time to teach me properly. After reading and trying several methods, I've spent several hours over the past few weeks practising. I even ordered a fountain pen because it forces me to hold the pen correctly! I'm loving it! Remember, this is a work in progress, but here is a sample after just a couple of weeks!

Hello and wow, that is beautiful. A work in progress at this level, :eureka: can you imagine how wonderful it will be when you (feel you) have mastered it?!

Enjoy and enjoy!

Why is it when I scan my writting it looks like I am having a seizure? I guess since it is larger than it really is.

Worked up enough to attach my chicken scratch.

Current handwriting sampe

That's very nice, quite legible and with a lot of personality. I am envious of those who can write a beautiful classic italic, Copperplate or Spencerian hand, but I've also come to really like handwriting styles that are legible, consistent and have a flair like this one.

Hi Cangrejito, Interesting to read your notes above, and yes it is always surprising how a favourite ink colour looks so different in another pen, also on other paper too.

I see you use the Parker Frontier sometimes, I keep on mentioning it on these boards, about how it is so underrated, but yet such a reliable and all-round 'good one'.

It's a plain and unfussy pen, with a real nib, and for the money I paid, about £10 for a plastic barrel one, and £12 for a 'Flighter'; a bargain.

I have read that it's a cheaper version of the 'Sonnet', but I have not been able to use one of those yet.

I can't think of anything bad to say about it, so naturally it's not being made any more !!

Hi Mike; I love my Parkers...they are so reliable!!! I live in Venezuela, so fountain pens are very rarely seen, people stopped using them many years ago, so all of my pens have been bought abroad...some through eBay, others on trips. The Frontier was a gift from my dad when he went to England about six years ago. I'm actually thinking of buying about ten (if I can find them) to give to some students that are graduating this year and always admired my FPs. I remember them asking me once "why do you write with an antique pen?". I hope I can give them the Frontiers, I know they'll love them as much as I do, and it will last for a very long time.

I hope nobody minds that this is my first post here. I have enjoyed going through this thread and envy many of the writing styles I've seen. I think my handwriting is terrible after years of writing in tiny spaces on medical charts. Here's my sample (first one in J. Herbin Bleue Pervenche with a Merlin 33 semi-flex nib, the second in J. Herbin Violette Pensee with my new Noodler's Creeper Flex, and the last in Private Reserve Sepia with a Waterman eyedropper pen with a flex nib c. 1903)

Welcome to the forums! The military almost destroyed mine, but it's slowly recovering. I think that your definition of terrible and mine are completely different---it looks great!
