Can anyone identify the basic style of this hand? Is it close to anything that has copy books to it? Or if I wanted to learn this style of writing where would be the best place to start?

If you remove the looped descenders and ascenders, it's closest to italic, and the transistion to true italic would be relatively simple to achieve IMO.

Thanks! Is it just cursive italic? Where can I find a tutorial for it? And a final , rather strange question, is it faster than Spencerian business hand?

It's a personalised form of cursive italic. Here are some Italic variations from my book. I wrote these out myself from actual examples to avoid any copyright problems. Once you have a good grasp of the basic structure of Italic, there are many ways it can be personalised, and still remain unmistakably Italic.

As a handwriting style, it's remakably resilient, and is still easily legible when written at a normal handwriting speed. Having said that, it's much better to study the formal lettering first, and then make personal modifications. Probably the best book on Italic handwriting which is currently available, is "Write Now" by Getty & Dubay. You should have no trouble finding a copy.

Wow, thanks! I can see the resemblance, I can't wait to start learning it! I've been wanting to learn a new style for my handwriting, but something about the Palmer method just seemed too... Elementary (Primary) schoolish. Spencerian business hand interested me too, but that sample I posted from Aporteosis just seemed so good! If it's not too much bother, could you have a look at my handwriting and tell me what script it resembles too? I want to learn either this hand or business hand, and I think I'd prefer to adopt the style that my current handwriting is closest to. My most recent sample is in the thread "writing speed"

Thanks a million!

I've just had a look. I think that it's closest to Italic. Here are three more examples.

Thank you sooo much! :D

I strongly recommend the (Inexpensive) Manuscript range of Italic pens.

+1 I learned to write with a fountain pen with Manuscript's nibs, very nice italics and virtually no scratching. Works great for a wide range of styles and writing sizes. Too bad I got the all-plastic one and not something a bit more hefty.

Hello, this is a small sample of my every day hand.

I had to blank parts from it since it contained confidential data.

I am not a calligrapher but here it is in any way.

The text is in Greek.

The text was written with a cheap Pirre Paul that is part of the pen set I keep at the office.

I know very little about Greek, but the Russian alphabet is similar, unless I'm mistaken, the consistancy of your letter shapes is a bit all over the place, particularly

Ф о and s, but besides that it looks good, then again, I'm not really in a position to judge, and I don't know if I even should be judging as this is just a showing thread. Somebody posted a sample of their Greek writing on the first page, I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks a lot for the comment, I am trying to improve the overall writing and produce a consistent look and feel.

I took the snapshot having in mind that some time in the future I will be able to produce an improved one.

The Russian (Cyrillic) alphabet shares a lot with the Greek capital alphabet. Not so much with the lower case letters.

Another point is that this text was a draft. A quick note to gather my thoughts in order to type them in at the final document.

I use these drafts as a sort of experiment of various ways of holding my pen and trying to achieve the famous "relaxed position"

We will see how it will work itself out in the future :)

nickapos, I must say I found it a little difficult to read. Not that my Greek (or English) is any better, just a different style.

I'd be curious to see the improvements as you learn the relaxed grip style. Currently, that's one of my difficulties also.

We hate you for having such beautiful handwriting, that's what we think! What's worse, we despise you for putting the words "newly found" in there! Your Palmer puts my best handwriting to shame :crybaby:

Wish my Palmer hand still looked that good! Pen/nib and ink used? Looks like you're writing in a Staples Sustainable Earth notebook.

Here's a recent letter I wrote. I'm still looking to improve it and make it a bit more consistent!

I know that this is a very late reply, but I've only just found this post and wanted to comment.

Aside from the writing, which is very attractive, I think that the most notable part of this post is the exceptionally appealing layout which is an object lesson IMO. The overall effect is great with the very wide interline spacing and the generous margins. I'm glad I found it!

I think that Apothosis, GClef and Saketb, might find this interesting as it's

This is a font called "Lauren Script".
