What Does Your Handwriting Look Like

Okay. I'm finally determined enough about fixing my handwriting to post it here.

I like your writing; it's direct, confident, honest-looking and legible.

Sincerely, beak.

I will post pictures one day... But today I had someone review an accordion folder, and in one of the slots it had my handwriting on it saying that a part (off a $42M jet) was missing. The reviewer made a comment about the handwriting. I then showed him my pen and he asked me what my problem was. :roflmho:

Here is a sample of my writing from this morning. I am very knew to using a fountain pen -- having picked one up for Christmas last year. I'd appreciate your thoughts and comments on how to improve.

The writing is on a Stillman & Birn Epsilon sketchbook using a Pelikan M215 with Waterman Black.

Thank you!!

So, the wife asks "what would you like for Christmas?"

We typically do not buy much for each other and offset that with piles for the grand kids.

I replied, "I'd like a piece of technology."

"And that's not new news" she said.

"It's older technology actually... a fountain pen", I requested.

You could have heard a pin drop. So in fine, 34+ years married fashion, I found what I wanted, gave her the web sites and like magic, a FP appears with Christmas wrap. Magic of today.

My penmanship was never good. A titch above readable at best. So since Dec. 25th, 2011, I have been laying down some ink. The story is in the image. This Forum and it's likes help me kill hours... when I should be grading students papers.

I'm still searching for a lettering style I like. There's a mess of things in this posting. It will find a level someday. No rush.

We tell our students that if they want to be really good at what they do, it takes 10,000 hrs. That is our Mantra. Some listen. Most don't. I have a few years left in me to rack up some of those hours.

Let the ink flow.

Hi, I'm new around here. I just wanted to register to check out other people's handwriting. A few of you have some exceptional hands :)

Here's my contribution. This was from an in-class, timed assignment in college. I wrote as fast as I could while keeping aesthetics in mind. Excuse the spelling and grammar, I'm not very quick to think with these open-ended questions. This was done with a Lamy Accent. It has a custom nib that I ground to my liking with a Dremel--very thin and scratchy.

Yours is readable. Stated on the printed tests I give, 'If I can't read it... it's wrong'. One professors push for better penmanship.

/cringes. Yeeeeep. That's mine alright. It's so weird. I've been trying to improve for ages, but nothing doing. :crybaby:

It is PERFECTLY legible!!! And to me, if I can actually READ each word and not have to guess at it, then that writing is FINE! A little practice on spacing and such and you are good to go I think!

Here is my poor excuse for writing. It is a Staedtler Calligraphy Pen I got at Office Depot. It has the "F" nib on it. It has a cartridge in it that came with it. VERY Black ink!

It is on 20# computer paper that I use the backs of for casual use.

Thanks, trim. Have you given a test with extra time expecting better penmanship? Maybe extra credit for the effort? It may inspire some

You could literally stab someone with my Lamy :) It got a nice resharpening last night. I like the uneven flow it gives on fast strokes, it adds character. I feel supplying the human element to writing anything makes it that much more elegant, regardless of what style you use

I certainly admire the dedication of FPN members who produce those lovely italic and copperplate writing samples as well as those who write with flex nibs. I haven't the time to practice, so I share with you my regular writing enhanced somewhat with a lovely cursive italic nib.

Not bad for an MD!

My handwriting:

This is the hand I was taught at school, and it's the only hand I've ever used. I'm very fond of it. (My minuscule ars have always been trouble...)

As interesting as the penmanship is here some of the writings are equally interesting. My scribbles are boring in comparison.

Sorry for no contribution to the thread, maybe I will get up the courage soon

a quick whip-up sample of my handwriting, cursive and print. no fancy paper, just my small Martha Stewart pink-cover journal with the ivory tint paper. depending on mood, ink color, and pen choice, my writing changes... so sometimes it slants more, changes sizes or gets fancier or plainer. go figure...I'm an Aquarius *grin*.

My everyday cursive supersized... so please pardon the shakiness, as I am not used to writing this large, but I thought it necessary to make it legible. There are 5mm between the lines in the paper, and my normal flex cursive has miniscule a's and c's only 2.5mm to 3mm in height. Absent flex, I regularly post a mere millimetre or so of height for those letters as, well, I detest wasting paper. :P

What a wonderful thread! I handwrite so infrequently these days (and almost never post here), but I love fountain pens and own far too many! My handwriting is rarely legible to others when it matters. This sample is with an el cheapo fountain pen I got off eBay. Probably cost me about AU$2. Certainly not one of my better pens, but one of my favourites with my favourite ink colour. My handwriting was never good, but since I started school in 1950-something, it's deteriorated into this mess!

I like your writing; It has a very nice personal touch to it and it makes me happy looking at it:D What is the ink called?

I am completely new to this forum, but I have been lurking for a few weeks. I was recently inspired to improve my handwriting. It has been terrible my whole life. After reading one article, I realized that no one had taken the time to teach me properly. After reading and trying several methods, I've spent several hours over the past few weeks practising. I even ordered a fountain pen because it forces me to hold the pen correctly! I'm loving it! Remember, this is a work in progress, but here is a sample after just a couple of weeks!

Go, you! :clap1:

Edited to add: Since you are engaged in self-instruction, I hope you won't mind my trying to steer you on to the course of spelling the word "definitely" correctly. It does not contain the letter "a," contrary to what a great many people seem to think.

Spell check came out when I was in 6th grade. I think that was a 7th grade vocabulary word. :)
