NORn - very nice! I'm just beginning my journey into illumination too - I have no artistic talent but hope to be able to reproduce some easy designs I've seen. Keep posting - it gives inspiration!

Here's mine. It's better than it used to be.

Several different pens and inks present in this sample.

Here's a sample of my writing. I wrote this up just now:

Vidalia,

Firstly, lovely handwriting! Secondly...do you default to or prefer one or other of these styles for day to day note-taking, journal writing, letter composition, etc? I ask, because I'm re-inventing my handwriting, and the influence of each of these styles has left me with a weird italic-monoline hybrid which fails to convey the elegance of either. And I feel that I should focus on one or the other for my handwriting overhaul.

This is my calligraphy as a work in progress, not my "handwriting". This is a sheet of practice writing. I've been working with Lloyd Reynolds' Italic Calligraphy and Handwriting: Exercises and Text, an excellent book.I don't practice everyday as I should, but I do carry a small Rhodia pad in my briefcase and if I'm sitting around waiting for something, I'll pull out the pad and practice. I do try to do at least 45 minutes of real work, sitting properly at a table, on weekends. I've been trying to be more serious about my calligraphy for about the last 6 months.

This sample is with a Platinum music nib which was customized by Richard Binder to what he calls a "crisp" italic; regrinding it to a sharper italic shape. The paper is Rhodia, ink is Noodler's Eel Blue.

My biggest problem is an unsteady hand. I don't have Parkinson's (and I mean no insult to anyone who might), I'm just very unsteady. If I "float" the pen as recommended by Reynolds, using a very light touch on the paper, my hand, not a naturally artist one, is unsteady. If I bear down a little harder, I can reduce the unsteadiness, but then lose the needed light touch to execute beautifully formed letters.

I would appreciate any advice from more steady-handed folks for any exercises or practices to achieve a steadier hand.

Here's my somewhat hastily done sample. My hand gets shaky due to muscle problems, which makes my handwriting shakier than desired. Oh well. This is written with a Pilot Vanishing Point in Medium using Noodler's Ottoman Azure.

paperskater - your handwriting is extraordinarily attractive! It really is. A joy to read.

Here's mine - done yesterday. It's my default, I guess. It's fast, legible enough (go to the before and after thread Caliken started to see the "before" - yikes!), and I like the personality. Now, if only I could be consistent in size, slant, and letter forms! Feel free to offer suggestions.

Well here is my handwriting, It was written over my Study Hall period when I was incredibly bored today with a Paper Mate Mega Lead 0.7mm (I do not have a school suitable FP :( ) and the text is all lyrics from songs on my iPod :) . The cursive is currently a mix of D'Nealian and Spencerian Business Writing. I haven't had much time to fully practice Spencerian B.W. so it is gradual but I am happy with the results thus far. The printing the result of hours of practice in Elementary School, and gradual evolution over time. Let me know what you think! :D

Here's my handwriting after a few months of sporadic practice.

It used to look quite atrocious and was rather illegible.

Still countless improvements to be made.

Please excuse the wrinkled paper and smeared ink!

I'll post again when I have achieved some more control and consistency.

Bronze, I think you're not giving yourself enough credit! I think the writing is beautiful!

I think I have that knot book! Maybe I'll post a sample using that after I practice some more. It could be a theme.

This is my usual writing, using here a Pelikan M800 OBB nib, inked with Iroshizuku tsuki-yo.

I'm still working on mine, but here's a sample. The pen is a Pelikan M205 with a Binderized .3mm cursive italic nib. The ink is Sailor Nano Blue-Black. The paper is Rhodia. Any feedback is appreciated.
