My first flex fountain pen writing

(I should say I've used plenty of dip pens with flex)

Is that Russian or Greek going on in the background?

Magic. I read the story straight off without a hitch, so no probs there, and the practise page was a definite ' right click / save as' job. Congrats. Better than me by a long chalk.

PS

Could you tell us the pens, inks and nib sizes please?

Thanks Beak for your comments.

The pen is a Parker sonnet France, nib size ? its fine is the 750 number on the nib indicating the size? the black ink is an 'Indian Ink' which was a mistake using it in this pen, as it dried out too quickly. The Blue ink is Parker Quink Blue-Black which comes out too blue for my liking, so I have bought some Parker Quink Black which I will now try.

the 750 indicates 18K gold, which in France is the lowest karat allowable for it to still be called gold.

Does that mean most gold nibs being 14k, in France would not be considered Gold?

It's probably Russian

"Once committed to fight, cut. Everything else is secondary. Cut. That is your duty, your purpose, your hunger. There is no rule more important, no commitment that overrides that one. Cut. Cut from the void, not from bewilderment. Cut the enemy as quickly and directly as possible. Cut decisively, resolutely. Cut into the enemy's strength. Flow through the gaps in his guard. Cut him. Cut him down utterly. Don't allow him a breath. Crush him. Cut him without mercy to the depths of his spirit."

I also tend to write straighter on an angle! Do you all also happen to be lefties?

This small example of Italic handwriting with underlinked ligatures, was written with a Pelikan M200 fitted with an Italic nib produced by Richard Binder.

This is my first post on this forum, and while I am proud of neither my handwriting nor my compositions, I have chosen to expose myself (metaphorically) on this thread. Perhaps it's a cry for help as I'm always looking for constructive criticism. Just be gentle. Note- I have never studied or practiced penmanship and am just now discovering the joys of fine writing.

My regular handwriting is a combination of printing and cursive:

My cursive handwriting is not very neat and IMHO lacks personality. I would love to improve it:

I find it incredibly inspirational to be on this site and look at the fine examples of penmanship of everyone here.

I very much like the clarity of the word 'time' in your first example. The second does have me guessing over one or two words, but lacking in personality? -not for me. Many of us are somewhat interested by what impression of character comes across in our handwriting, and this produces a search for a satisfactory mix of the two. I'm going to put in a vote for clarity as the most important by far, the other to follow along as best it can. Welcome, and Happy New Year!

 some very nice handwritings in here

The daily handwriting at normal speed; coming along slowly. Surprising how old fashioned it looks on the screen – and there was me trying to be all dynamic. More legible, at least! Goal; to improve the overall regularity and to cure dodgy letter forms one by one. This time next year?

Small: Pilot 78G 'fine' nib.

Large: Pelikan M805 'broad' nib.

Love the orange sample about a dozen posts ago.

Oh -say it again - more - more!:D

I think my favourite thing about this thread is how much I learn simply by looking at other's writing; more than I have from textbooks - not that I've studied many of those.

I get most from the ordinary flow of ordinary writing from others' hands; "Ah - that's how I want my A's to look, Oh - not too keen on that B. Yes - that's were I should be heading." Great stuff this thread; will run forever.

Sincerely, beak.
