This is my current handwriting i have been useing. These are some U.S. Goverment notes i took today. The ink in the photo is pilot iroshizuku asa-gao

Wow: duelists and polygamists can't vote in the USA? I never knew that. Like the handwriting: loads of character!

Looking through this thread has made me feel really poorly about my own handwriting--but it is really amazing to see what some of you can do. In any case, I found one and wrote up four quick samples of my own handwriting. It's terrible, but I've only started using a fountain pen about three months ago, and even this is much better than my handwriting previous to that point in time.

Some time in the future, I am going to make a concerted effort to improve my handwriting drastically. Perhaps I will be able to do it over this coming winter break.

Cheers!

Wrote up a quick sample for you all. As you can no doubt see, I tend to have a hard time writing straight across the paper without guidelines, but I didn't quite get around to getting a lined sheet of paper, either to write on or to use as a guide behind the sheet I wrote on.

Edit: Also, I realize that I misspelled "capital". Accidentally wrote capitol, momentary brain fart :P

That sort of requirement is on a state-by-state basis. A number of states added to their constitutions in the 19th century very draconian anti-dueling measures to try to break the practice. (Especially following high-profile deaths like Hamilton and Decatur). Similarly it became a court-martial offense to even be aware of a planned duel in the US military without reporting it--because more junior officers were dying in duels than in combat. Polygamy is in a similar boat, with anti-polygamy language required in the constitutions of several western states before they were admitted (so they wouldn't overturn statutes which imposed similar restrictions on federal territories).

I tried my best to just write and not think about my writing to give a good example of my everyday writing. The scan got the colour pretty good in my opinion and since this is not an ink review I probably doesn't matter that much.

Thanks for the history lesson Mstone: isn't "civilised" society fascinating? UK has some very esoteric laws too, many of which seem to involve sheep, but I guess that's a whole new thread.

Pen fanatic: Hmmmm so there are THREE Corgi owners on the forum: and I thought they were a dying breed.

Gobblecup: I am very jealous of your capital I & T, not to mention your ink collection

Thanks Corgi... although I feel I need to work on making them more distinguishable I am glad to get a complement!

This is my writing. Ever since I started using a fountain pen, I have just taken characters I've liked ( and that I could draw :P) and incorporated them into my own writing. It probably looks like a mess to you guys. The first half is with a Lamy italic 1.1 nib and the second half is with a Lamy Extra fine nib (my normal writing nib).

Sorry for all the cross-outs and thanks for looks guys.

P.S.

benkalziqi: I like "A Song of Ice and Fire" as well, still waiting for the latest one to come out :(

i've been trying to improve my writing for the past few days by writing pangrams. I haven't handwritten in probably 12 years so i totally forgot how to do a lot of letters and i stutter a lot still. It's getting more legible, clean, and flowy, but i want to add more style to it, but that'll be later when i finally get my own pen and get the basics down again:

ethernautrix,

Sorry, this is a bit belated, but I've only just found your post dated 20th September shown here and I wanted to comment on your very attractive handwriting. IMHO it's an object lesson in clarity and is entirely distinctive and personal as all good handwriting should be as a reflection of the individual writer.

Ken,

Coming from you especially, that is a huge compliment. Thank you very much.

Lisa

P.S. Yes, I have striven for clarity, in my handwriting if not my writing itself. (Well, I do strive for the latter, but am not always successful.)

I have been procrastinating from my school work all evening playing with my new pen (a waterman from the 30s), and thought I'd show off my poor attempts at Spencerian Ladies Hand -- contrasted with what my handwriting usually looks like, to my shame.

These photos are a Waterman 52 inked with Diamine Evergreen

(sorry for the random words -- I get bored with just the alphabet.)

(a bit early, but I'm practicing for my christmas card)

This last photo is full of econometrics notes with Noodler's Army Green in, if I remember correctly, an easterbrook and Private Reserve Orange Crush in a Pelikan 205.

That Spencerian doesn't look poor at all! It seems to my inexperienced self that if you could manage a slightly more steady hand, you'd have a real winner, there :).

You are too kind! Thank you!

And yes, I do have a lot of problems with keeping my hand steady -- if anyone has any suggestions, they'd be much appreciated. I just find myself suddenly jerking around for no clear reason.

Sorry, I can't figure out how to resize.

This is from my summer class, when I was just learning Greek, so be patient with my Greek penmanship!

This was taken w/my cell phone.

Nothing special at all, but an obvious, obvious improvement over my last sample :).
