George Bickham's Penmanship Made Easy (Young Clerks Assistant)

Yes, its a small paperback book. Most delicately made. And most reasonable in price. Lots of practice, no frills.

is there any link...for practice notebook

Mehandiratta. Why would you need it? It was your handwritting samples that inspired me to do better in my penmanship.

I just purchased mine on Amazon for about $5USD.

I ran across a quote I had written out last August, just after I started to figure out that there was this flexy thing. I thought it might be fun to try to re-write it using my current dip pen handwriting and compare. Bottom is from August 2015, top is from this afternoon.

So... which one was which again?:)

All joking aside, that's some amazing progress AAAndrew. I really love your current script!

This is my normal, day-to-day, university-lecture-note-taking handwriting:

http://i1138.photobucket.com/albums/n522/Guardevoir/Pen%20and%20Writing%20Stuff/img070.jpg

My handwriting is a mess, but improving is hard when you don't even have an official version to base your efforts on.
I'm not even sure where I'm going with this.

This is my paying-attention-to-what-I'm-doing handwriting:

And this is my "pretty" handwriting:

current script hand

#InkyFingers,

I love that continuous cursive script; it is an artwork which just makes you want to read what is written. I think that that is the beauty of carefully crafted handwriting -- to draw the reader into needing to read what you have written.

It is that aesthetic magnetism that makes this thread one of my favourites on FPN.

If I could produce even half-decent photos, I would be tempted to subject you to my own scrawl! Whenever I have tried to use either my camera or phone, the images are just an embarrassment.

Cheers,

David.

Edit: Woa, where did the picture go?!? I think that the gremlins have pinched it.

It's all quite legible and flows far better than my own. Sadly, I have but one hand of writing.

And props for the Assassin's Creed quote.

I like your script!

Before working on anything, first thing I'd do is try and identify what it is exactly you'd like to fix. This might be just a couple of things, which need not fundamentally change what you'd call your handwriting.

Glad to hear it! The former was pretty much what I was going for (well, legibility and speed, technically), the latter probably has to do with a life of near-constantly writing cursive(-ish things).

:D *highfive*

Only thing that comes to mind is longer ascenders and descenders and a generally more airy, elegant look, but alas, I've been trying to achieve that since I was 10 and it never worked. Some part of my subconscious is fundamentally opposed to wasting ink on purely aesthetic embellishments, it seems. Story of my life, pretty much: I adore fancy (there's a reason I'm a history nerd and that reason is 67% fashion), but I don't like being fancy. Or something. Which begs the question: What's more important in handwriting, the writer's personality or their aesthetic sensibilities?

Apart from that, consistency. Which should be easy, but I keep getting distracted by new things to try.

I'm also very tempted to revive that left-slanted writing I employed for quite a while when I was still in school (it was pretty and comfortable, but I ended up trying for a more classical look and went back to right-slanted from there), but that would be one heck of an alteration to get used to.

So this is my normal handwriting that i've had since primary school, written with just a standard rollerball pen.

I'm a writing and pen N00b but am amazed by all the beautiful handwriting i've seen on this forum and elsewhere and hope to learn and improve my own. Any suggestions on where to start with pens and styles or anything more than welcome. Cheers.

also

WritingN00b - also consider trying dip pens if you'd like to try flexible nibs. Dip pens are super cheap.

Plus, my scan got cut off at the bottom; the ink was Pelikan 4001 royal blue. Not that it matters, the colors are off, anyway.

well this is the age of the internet so i guess availiability isnt really an issue. Also have a penshop not too far away http://www.penshop.co.uk/

Apart from a cheap parker fountain pen i used back in high school(for about a day, ink all over the pages and it was just a mess lol) i have not used any type of fountain pen or different nibs.

I have Dyspraxia which means it took me a long time to learn how to write in the first place, I can't write particularly fast am pretty up and down with hand pressure etc although it's much better these days. I worry with a fountain pen that as with high school text will look very strange and i would probably damage nibs with the wrong pressure occasionaly among other issues.

"One of the primary symptoms of dyspraxia is poor handwriting. This is due to poor motor skills, perceptual dysfunction and erratic organisation and motor planning."
