MB Burgundy Red vs Bordeaux & Violet vs Lavender Purple

I just got the new versions of these colours and did some tests with a cotton swab as seen in the picture.

As far as I can tell, the new versions are pretty much the same as the old ones although to my eye, the new versions are both a clearer slightly redder colour. Especially the Burgundy Red. With the Violet/Lavender it's not very noticeable but the Burgundy, to me, is slightly different.

I need a dip pen, I think, to do this properly for showing colour. I tried to adjust the scan to be more colour correct but your monitor may not show it like my laptop one does.

Put it this way, if I'd seen this I wouldn't have bought the new versions. I am a bit peeved with the advertising actually, because the Lavender and Burgundy (to a lesser extent, seem to be quite different colours. Oh well, luckily I like both of them.

thank you for posting these scans. Now I will absolutely buy MB lavender as I love the slight extra reddish part which I was missing in Violet.

I'm not sure you would notice the difference in the Violet & Lavender in a pen - maybe wait until someone has done a written comparison and see then what you think. I'm getting a couple of Safaris very soon and when I do I will do a written test with the 2 pairs of similar/same inks and post them here because I think that might show it more accurately.

Not sure if it is my screen, but I can't see much difference between the old and new inks!

Thanks for these - very useful. I can see the new burgundy looks slightly "brighter" than the old but the Lavendar/Violet appear identical to my eye. I saw another post somewhere on FPN that claimed the Lavendar and Violet are indeed the same inks.

Yes, I would call the Violet and Lavender the same inks too. The Bordeaux and Burgundy Red are pretty close to being the same really. To me the Bordeaux is kind of duller or has a tiny tinge more grey to it than the new version.

If I could rewind time a couple of weeks I wouldn't be running out for the new versions, that's for sure. The new bottle and box are really nice though. The lid on the new bottle is lovely!

Yes, they're very close, actually on the scans I can't tell the difference. I love both inks so this is good news.

Thanks for the comparison. Burgundy Red looks almost the same as Bordeaux which is good news for me nice I was bummed about them discontinuing the color.
