twsbi vacuum filling system fountain pen project

Again, as others keep asking, when are the Vac 700 pens going to be available for purchase here in the U.S.?

I'd noticed mention of doing away with cap threads in favor of snap on caps, PLEASE DON'T DO IT, LEAVE THE CAPS THREADED!

If you change the design to a snap-on cap, no threaded caps, I will NEVER buy one I promise and I know many people that feel the same way I do.

Some people complained about the Diamond pens having overly tight caps, you know that was a production fault and not the idea of having threaded caps

I would still have preferred an overly tight threaded cap to a snap-on caps especially for injection-molded plastic pens, the threads are easy enough to smooth with a certain method of lapping I know how to do, and I've been hearing recent buyers of the Diamonds are now finding them easier to twist on and off that before so that's good .

So please, if they are being sold now, can you direct me to that Link or Website?

I have friends I'd sent pictures to of the TWSBI Vac filler pens, they're too busy to attend the FPN forums having kids and working long hours and have asked me to keep watch for them.

Many very interested in your plunger filler/ vacuum filler pen are anxiously awaiting to get those TWSBI vac' fillers at a good price, and ASAP.

I haven't seen any recent updates, maybe I've missed them?

If I'd not missed updates, being there were none, then please update us now???

Thank you, sir speedy, good luck with your ventures, hoping to hear some good news that these pens have already been released or at least very soon-to-be!

I'm excited about this pen and can't wait until it's released. But I do have one, selfish request.

The first 300 of the 530 was released here and they can now be bought from other sellers. If the vac filler pen was to be pre-released here, is there anything that can be done to the pen to make them unique from the subsequent ordinary release?

I may be asking a lot but this forum is a big supporter of TWSBI and have offered their advice for free. The pre release of the 530 was great and I love the pen, but it would have been nice to have something that showed it was a limited pre-release.

Just something to think about.....

I like that suggestion as well; however, not so much that I am willing to hold up the project to see it realized. Well.. at least not held up significantly.

A limited release/pre-release would be cool.

A comment on snap on-caps, I just have one concern regarding cap cracking. In my experience with ballpoints, a lot of snap on plastic caps have a huge tendency to crack after a while. It doesn't affect functionality but its annoying see a crack, especially on clear plastic.

I must disagree. I do not think a pre-release would be cool.

It would EXTREMELY ULTRA COOL!!! :clap1:

Bock can make and has made in Vintage years, semi-flex, and Full Flex nibs. I have a couple.

I have some grand vintage steel nibs from other companies.

The problem as I see it is ordering special steel to do so.

I believe I read somewhere from some one else who is building a fountain pen, that the minimum order was 1,000 or was it 5,000 all of one width.

So I don't see a lot of folks wanting semi-flex nibs that much, all in B so they can get it ground down to what ever size they want. "After market"

A good steel nib can be as good as a good gold nib.

A poor steel nib is just a poor nib.

Modern nibs in gold or steel are not as good at the generations before had.

In reference to P. T. Barnum; to advise for free is foolish, ........busybodies are ill liked by both factions.

Ransom Bucket cost me many of my pictures taken by a poor camera that was finally tossed. Luckily, the Chicken Scratch pictures also vanished.

Does anybody know if there will be a stub option offered for the Twsbi Vac? Or for that matter, the Diamond?

Both options would be great for me. Also some flex nibs would make a TWSBI pen a pen I have dreamt about.

Reading the TWSBI Facebook page, I notice that Speedy suggests ~1 month ETA for the Diamond 540 and ink bottle and a few months for the Vac 700... can't wait!

Great catch! Thanks for sharing the information.

Not a problem, Speedy. I'm still interested, and I'll buy the one greencobra was gonna buy besides the one I was gonna get anyhow.

A quick question from someone without a vacuum or piston filler. If the 530 and 700 perform similarly, why would I want a 530 when the 700 would have a better ink capacity?

the vac700 is a bigger pen, and big pens don't fit all hands. some just like piston fillers better than vacs. it's just a matter of taste. it's like saying "why do people buy the m600, if the m800 holds more ink and looks almost the same?".

Quality takes time. Rush things and you get problems! I am happy to wait for such exceptional products. I LOVE my 530! and I am sure I will love the vac and the 540. Do what you have to do Speedy, we're behind you!

Ah ok, I thought they were exactly the same shape pen, just different filling systems, so was just wondering what the advantages were of pistons over vacs. I thought maybe there was some reliability, weight distribution or other pros and cons for one or the other system.

I guess what I'm asking is if we assumed they were the same shape, size & price what would be the pros & cons?

Cheers,

EF

I don't yet own a TWSBI, but I have seen some impressive pictures of the pen, the body looks very well manufactured! I don't see myself buying one if they continue to have rigid steel nibs with the same ol' EF, F, and M tips. Will there be any more interesting nibs for the 700s? Will it be possible to buy a pen with a different size nib (at least) installed, rather than buying a whole pen, and then a new nib on top of it? What Nathan Tardif is doing at Noodler's Ink with his flex nibs, music nibs, etc. shows that, like with the TWSBI's pen body, a very effective and quality product can be produced and sold for a reasonable retail price. Speedy, maybe you and Nathan could work together to produce a special TWSBI flex nib? :eureka:
