twsbi vacuum filling system fountain pen project

I love the faceting of the caps - it makes it instantly recognisable as a TWSBI. Presumably this feature on the Diamond 530 is what gave rise to the name (or vice versa) hence I think the Vac filler should also retain Diamond in the name. Indeed, is there any need to call it anything other than the Diamon 700 (or whatever appropriate number)?

Regardless, I haven't got a vac filler, so if the quality is up there with the Diamond 530, count me in for one (or two looking at the Blue one as well as the demonstrator!!!).

"Go on doing with your pen what in other times was done with the sword" - Thomas Jefferson, 1796.

Current lineup in play:

PELIKAN 400NN (OB) & (F) M600 (M), AURORA 88 (M), CROSS ATX (M) TOWNSEND (M), OSMIROID 75 (M), TWSBI 530 (F),

I also would not worry too much about cramming Vac(uum) into the name, when the numbers can indicate well enough-- a BMW X5 is unlikely to be mistaken for a 535i, right? Since you're still essentially at the beginning of the process, you can start settling what the naming practices for TWSBI are, and leave plenty of room for movement. For example:

Diamond (Faceted feature-- you can then have any other word in the world for a major body type, like "Granite" for something with a square cross-section)

5 (relative size, the bigger vac being 7)

3 (filler type; 5 for vac, perhaps 1 for eyedropper, 2 for cartridge....)

0 (specific model-- one day, perhaps you'll want to change the model enough that another number may appear here)

Just an example; the specifics are of course up to you. If the numbers are inherently meaningful, you get a lot of data into that tiny amount of text.

It just occurred to me that I'm being inspired by Volvos of the 1970s.

Not sure you HAVE to have the "Vac" designation in the name. After all, the TWSBI Diamond 530 doesn't have a "P" or the word "Piston" to indicate that it is a piston-filler.

Or maybe future piston-fillers could have a "P" designator and vacuum-fills could use the "V"...P530, P550, V700, etc.

yes a good suggestion. the number gives hint to the size of the pen, and the letter instantly identify the filling system of the pen. my vote goes to riff raff's idea.

Just send me a couple from the first batch, this will drastically improve my creativity...

(did I win anything?)

Jokes apart, TWSBI V700 would be fine (hell, I have a Suzuki GSX750F, and that name is already too long...).

I'm all for a lower price, but even if we're talking a price on par with the Pelikan M200 (the basic one, not the slightly costlier M205s and 215s) I would contend it is a good value. This pen holds a ton of ink if it is properly done.

+1!

I'm counting down to buy this pen! C'mon, Speedy, let us test it! ;)

The third digit would have some significant use in the cartridge filling system, indicating which particular cartridge the pen is designed to be compatible with... since I'm assuming that they will inevitably get made first in International long/short, then in a number of competing form factors, perhaps with an interchangeable barrel and a number of standardized cartridge interfaces that can be screwed on and off with the TWSBI signature spanner.

Well... Next !

Diamond V700 seems pretty fine to me, meaning it keeps simple and can be the beginning of a really precise meaning-based system of references. But after all, it's your line of products... B)

No, seriously, for me, Diamond V700 for the facetted one would be clearly the best.

Keep it up !

That's just a prototype, right? The knob will still be opaque black on the final model, I think.

No, these are all formal tooling already.

The color scheme will be opaque color on section and end knob, barrel and cap will be colored transparent.

you can refer posting here

http://www.bbs.twsbi.com/viewthread.php?tid=184&highlight=

colors are not final yet.

I really like this color scheme with the transparent body and solid black grip and knob. I probably wouldn't order a completely transparent demonstrator, but this looks like a perfect compromise.

Well, I thnk the name will go back to

TWSBI Vac 700, Vac 700 souned short and power enough, isn't it!

since TWSBI Diamond V7 is reserved for large nib 530 with window and solid color barrel.

The color scheme of the pen I think will go like below, I post them before

1st one is mor traditional, I believe everyone can accept it

2nd and 3rd are more vivid and strong. Since the aesthetics design of this pen is off traditional so maybe a off traditional colors will bring up it's attention too.

OK! the truth is I don't know what color I should use on this pen, so I just take what ever I have on hand.:roflmho:

Speedy,

Vac 700 : I like 1st! and it would be nice if you make one "smoked" and-or "amber" like Pilot Custom 823! I do like these finishes!

What do you think??

Speedy, smoke and or amber would be great, I'm aways in favor of dark greens, too. I like the colored ones, and I agree that non-traditional would point them up.

A kind of striated finish would be great too, but I don't know if it could be expensive. :puddle: I also agree that colored barrels are nice;

Wayne the Shrink,

I also like translucent dark greens!

It is so fine, to watch these developments.

No.. I don't have one yet... And I do like the colors more than a pure demo- Should I ever buy a demo it will be a Twsbi.

I'd buy a green too (as long as it isn't GT!)!
