twsbi vacuum filling system fountain pen project

next step: snorkel

Considering that declared target was producing affordable, easy to DIY maintain pens, I've some doubts a snorkel fit the description.

I would like to see TWSBI attempt, anyway (the 530 is very good, the vac looks promising, the company already demonstrated respect for its customers...).

I would be all over a Diamond 330! The Pelikan M800s (close in size to the 530) is a bit too big for me. I like the Pelikan M600 best, and would absolutely ADORE a Diamond 330 about the same size as the Pelikan M625 (although I'm all about the piston rather than vac).

YAY! :)

I got a Diamond 530 at the New York pen show; it hasn't left my pocket. The nib is very smooth and the pen starts perfectly every time. Very impressive demonstration table at the show and terrific representatives (Speedy, was that you?). At a $55 price point (even a little higher) I'm definitely on the list for the vacuum filler as well - so far the smokey brown is my favorite, but I'll want to see what finally comes into production. In the meantime, I wait.... :puddle:

Best regards,

Adam

$55 is a little high isn't it? I paid $39.99 for mine directly from speedy's ebay store.

$55 for the vac fil, not the 530 piston filler.

I see. I misunderstood the original post. He was just stating that at $55 he'd buy a vac filler.

I think Speedy mentioned in another thread he would update us on the status of the various projects (color 530, solid 530 with ink window, vac filler, ink bottle) in a post coming in a few days.

2010/11/14 update

This passing month mainly working on fine tune final dimensions, get ready for small batch run.

The clip was planning be made by die casting, but we still not happy with the surface finish, so it may be changed to be made by forming. The sample is being processed.

This time we are going to make feeder and feeder housing by ourselves, the tooling won't be ready for test until end of Dec., then I can buy the nib from Bock. It will be some times to wait.

I made a pen for myself for testing, it has real 18K gold nib, cost me a futune to get this nib.

since the tools for making the vac filler won't be ready till end of dec ( so maybe the production of the vac filler will start in jan or feb) i'm more interested in the other color options for the diamond 530, since they should be available quicker.

Please check out my blogshop for fountain pens and inks at http://inkoholicanonymous.blogspot.com/ Reviews of my pens can be found there too!

If you can shoot for a release in february (since it was first announced then), it would make for a great way to have the project completed one year after it was announced.

as it stands though, the pen looks great! I think I can see why you want to go with an opaque end cap, it does look a bit empty with the clear bit back there. The step looks much better in this prototype, looks like it'll feel like a good transition when gripping.

That's just a prototype, right? The knob will still be opaque black on the final model, I think.

Hoped I could have it under my Christmas tree...

The clear one looks better, but this is only my opinion...

Since the feeder housing part will be produced by TWSBI a clear one would match the clear knob.

And it would be a VAC-Fill pen showing all the part.

Guessing it will be as self-serviceable as the D530 is no problem for cleaning!!!

Just my 2 cents.

The Vac looks like it will have way more ink capacity than then Diamond 530. Plus with such a long path for the ink to slosh about, it will be great for those who use bright colours.

I can imagine spending time just tilting the pen from end to end to see the ink slosh around!
