How to make handwriting more "manly"?

A question for the OP: Could it be that your writing has simply not drifted as far from what you were taught as has that of your critic? I suspect "manly" in his eyes might be simply "inferior" in others'.

MY morning suggestion for Anyone who is worried about their handwriting style, pen/ink color, is to wear a button with Your avatar.. pointing to your avatar button will directly express your displeasure with the cloddish inquiry

Well, let me tell you what looks girly to me.

• uniform line thickness
• fine lines
• curvy but simple strokes
• high x-height
• something curvy besides a simple dot on the i
• no slant
• relatively high legibility
• slightly extended interletter spaces
• bigger overall

So, to look manly, avoid those things.

I love all of the responses here, especially the poem. I was laughing out loud reading some of what had been written and my husband threw in his two cents, saying that he admires elegant handwriting, no matter who wrote it. He identified as being feminine or "girly" circles or hearts instead of dots over the i and j and he would personally refrain from those.

I have a fairly classic Palmer style handwriting... it is how I was taught back in the stone age in school before ballpoints....

To this day I still have a very neat and, I believe, easy to read classical handwriting.... It is not an exact copy of Palmer, but over the years it is how my handwriting developed..

Take a look... do you consider this girly.... should it be considered girly.... I don't think so.... it is correct for the style that was taught to both boys and girls when I was in elementary school...

People who consider neat and stylish handwriting girly generally do not have great handwriting themselves, but might believe they do...

Want to show them some real MANLY handwriting... get a block of stone and chisel....

I will stay with my handwriting..
