How to make handwriting more "manly"?

Actually, the neater the "manlier", I believe. Also, avoid loops and use straight, vertical lines on letters such as "L", "T", "P", "Q", "R" "D" etc. etc.

Oh dear, by your definition that would make my writing not manly. embarrassed_smile.gif However, no one, so far, has dared to suggest such a thing to me.

MANLY and GIRLY are words for kids. Adults use the word HUMAN...

Whatever your handwriting is, just be proud of it. It reflects your personality and is unique in its way. Dare to be yourself!

Yes I agree with you. That was said in the way of a joke. My saying that "no one has dared" implies a rather rough, gruff, and therefore, "manly" demeanor, that none of my acquaintances will challenge. In fact in my neighborhood, I am known for a certain toughness, that is belied by the poetry that I write to amuse myself. Some writing is simply beautiful, like OldGriz, up there. There is nothing unmanly about it. He obviously learned at the same kinds of schools that I did, where a sign of "manliness" was not to care about what others thought of it, but to do it anyway, for his own enjoyment.

If it is legible, it is manly enough. If it is not legible, then it really doesn't matter. I did not learn as well as Griz, though I was taught the same way, but I keep trying, and if I write slowly enough I get close. Do not get caught up in the 'handwriting' analysis junk; write the way you want to write and enjoy the interaction of pen, paper, and brain. Tom

You are just a perfectly balanced human being! It takes time to grow up to such an advanced level.

I wish I could write as nice as the example posted! Girly or not! A person comfortable with themselves should be proud, not embarrassed.

I have a fairly classic Palmer style handwriting... it is how I was taught back in the stone age in school before ballpoints....

To this day I still have a very neat and, I believe, easy to read classical handwriting.... It is not an exact copy of Palmer, but over the years it is how my handwriting developed..

Take a look... do you consider this girly.... should it be considered girly.... I don't think so.... it is correct for the style that was taught to both boys and girls when I was in elementary school...

People who consider neat and stylish handwriting girly generally do not have great handwriting themselves, but might believe they do...

Want to show them some real MANLY handwriting... get a block of stone and chisel....

I will stay with my handwriting..

Please do, OldGriz, your handwriting looks great!

And very manly too....

Perhaps relating a short experience from a few years ago will best illustrate my view on this matter.

I had ridden a motorcycle from Seattle down the coast to California to attend an event held outdoors. Since there is very little room on a motorcycle, I planned to buy a hat in California. Going to a large Drug Store, I found a straw hat at a very reasonable price and took it up to the cashier. The cashier, who was a lady, looked at me somewhat scornfully and said, "That is a woman's hat". I handed her the money, said "Not anymore" and walked out.

My advice would be to not even think about changing your handwriting because of others' comments. If someone says that your handwriting looks like a girls, you might say something like, "No, my friend, this is a man's handwriting, it is just intended to be legible".

Manly handwriting is when you stab yourself in the arm with a dip-pen and write your stuff in your own blood. That there's manly.

Okay seriously...Just forget it. It's YOUR handwriting, not theirs. If it looks right to you, then it's right. As others have said, those who complain are only doing it to make them feel better. If you wanna hurl it back at them, carry out the following scenario:

"Your handwriting looks girly"

"And yours is SOOOOOO BUTCH!! Damn dude, SHOW IT TO ME!!"

"What the..."

"SHOW IT!"

If their handwriting actually sucks, you can stick it to them and then leave.

Women's handwriting often is "rounder" than men's. The loops are more pronounced. Where a man's loop, if he loops at all, is a narrow ellipse a woman's loop is a wider more circular loop. A "worst case" word for highly exaggerated feminine writing is "little". Write it with no slant, and every character with a fat loop including the t's ... and yeah, then go back and dot the 'i' with a heart or a smiley face!

So, if you want "manlier" writing develop a consistent slant if you don't have one, and narrow your loops.

Next time use one of the the following lines when they say that your handwriting looks girly:

1. "Yes! And I am proud of it."

2. "Yes! I like girls! Don't you like them too?"

3. "Mr. ..., are you trying to seduce me?"

4. "What's wrong with you man? You see girls everywhere!"

5. "Thank you very much for your complement! I've been working on it for years!"

6. "Thank you for noticing. I respect people who appreciate good handwriting."

7. "I love you man!"

Anyone else want to add to the list?

P.S. Don't change a hair on your handwriting. It's not really manly to pretend. To be manly is to be proud of the way you naturally are.
