Waterman Elegance - does anybody own this pen?

Hello - I'm a newbie here. Living in NYC and have a lot of Pelikan and Waterman. Adding bit by bit.

I just bought one of these new, for an unreal discount. Seems rather legitimate to me. Quite a pen. The nib is medium and is definitely not magnetic steel. Engraving etc. matches the quality of my other Waterman pens I have bought at a store. Not a lot of flexibility though, but a delightful frictiony feel. (Medium nib)

A very nice pen for signing checks that are printed on poorer (low clay content) quality computer form paper.

Does anybody else have this pen? What are your thoughts?

Regards,

Jerry

I have a hard time making up my mind about the Elegance. I do not have one. I have seen it and held it in a B&M shop on a couple of occasions.

Honestly, I swing back and forth finding it "very pretty" and "somewhat tacky", pretty much alternating.....it's frustrating, really ;)

...so my thought is: give us a through review of the pen ;)

OK I am away on business. As soon as I return I will reply with pictures. I must be honest - my wife said "it looks like a bullet" but I think it has a kind of Bauhaus look to it. I like it. I have been writing with it on this trip and the more I write with it, the more I like it. I do not put the cap on the end though. I prefer to use it "naked" (I'm sure there is an aficionado term for this). The pen is juicy and stiff at the same time. Don't understand it. Usually a fountain pen is either juicy and flexy or stiff and hard. This is stiff and juicy. I'll figure it out soon and report back.

I promise pix and a fuller review in two days. WITH PIX!

I think that the terms you are looking for are "posted" and "non-posted", if you put the cap on the blind end of the pen or not when writing, respectively ;)

But what do I know, I am a neophyte in the FP-lingo ;)

Excellent, thanks! If you are an accomplished macro-photographer, high-quality nib-porn would be appreciated, as part of the review ;)

Actually I bought them on ebay the FP - $175 the Rollerball $139. Ebony and Ivory respectively (please don't think about that awful song). I'm thinking this line is not meeting up with Waterman's expectations at all and they are dumping them? They were from a very reputable ebay seller and the quality of the pens - to me - indicates they are legit. In fact I am of the opinion that the only pens that are counterfeited are ones with large enough trading volumes that it would make sense for the counterfeiter to invest their time and efforts. So this model is definitely below the radar (not many stores sell this one) and I'm therefore not inclined to think this pen would be the subject of a counterfeit. BUT - I will let you all decide when I get home and mount my macro lens and ring flash and take some action shots!

I think the song is cute.

However, I was not so sure about the Elegance; can't wait to see pictures!

Those are, however, quite attractive prices for these writing tools.....

I've got one. The ivory one. It is a delight. VERY weighty for such a short pen, and really nice to hold. And it's nice having a shortish pen that does have a converter. The pictures on the Waterman website generally do it justice, although without actually seeing the ivory lacquer I probably wouldn't have been keen on it, ivory not being a colour that appeals in general. But in fact it is very pretty with all the gold - prettier than the black, I think. A strangely stiff, but at the same time very smooth nib. Starts up easily when not being used daily, and generally a very lovely thing. It was a choice between the Dupont Defi, which was much cheaper, but which felt too lightweight for its looks (that'd be the carbon fibre, apparently), and I haven't regretted it.

Although having said that, I am determined to get the Defi next month ... or maybe May or June ...

As I bought this in a UK Real World shop you don't want to know what I paid for it. But it is, I think, worth it. Currently my favourite. Inked with MBoyster grey.

I found this old post but not the photos.

The Elegance was my first Waterman - it came as Medium, I prefer the Fine.

It would be good if you could get the barrel and cap for the same low cost as the nib and section! :D
