New Pilot Vanishing Point pen color - Capless Decimo now sold in the US

Just got confirmation from Pilot that they are releasing a new brown Vanishing Point pen on February 1st. This is a regular production color and not a limited edition. Fahrney's Pens has a picture of it in their online catalog. They call it a chocolate brown. Link to catalog: http://viewer.zmags.com/publication/4340a328#/4340a328/40.

 

Fahrney's also has a limited supply of the sparkly blue and red Pilot Capless Decimo (page 2 & 3 in the online catalog). According to Pilot Fahrney's is the only place to get them in the US (while supplies last).

This is excellent news! I've always wanted a brown VP and wondered why they hadn't released one before (other than the Sesenta). You can bet this just moved to the top of my wish list.

Thanks for the link djpyle. What is also interesting is that they say in the ad that now ALL the Vanishing Points come with 18K gold nibs. So even the older models that originally came with 14K nibs will now be fitted with 18K nibs.

What I find very interesting in the picture you linked is that the blue carbonesque and brown have Rhodium nibs. Here in the US, only the LEs (not the Mandarin or Red Carboneque) came with Rhodium nibs but in Japan, the (kasuri) carbonesque series were sold with Rh nibs...

 

So will we see Rh nibs in the US now? Or is that just Pilot taking liberties with their photography...

I just talked to a friend who works for a pen store in Northern California and he says that all the regular production VPs now have 18K yellow gold nibs, regardless of trim finish. The last regular production VP was the yellow, released in September 2008.

 

I just realized that the brown was to be released today. I will place my order for the brown tomorrow and find out what color nib it has and post what I find out.

 

BTW, I have a table at the LA pen show (February 11-14, 2010), if you are at the show come by and say hi.

Hello there...

 

My Name is HOINK, and I'm a Caplessaholic.....

 

I know of three nib types which come with the VP, but not in which countires.

Since 1999 there are (the newer, actual form) three nib types avaiable, which are golden 18k (looks obviously golden), rhodinated 18k (looks silver) and special alloy nibs, which I persume are brassed steel, but I am not sure.

The third type, special alloy, can not be bought seperately, as far as I know, but can only be acquired with the pens in Japan, as a quite cheaper variant (40 to 50 dolars less with aspecial alloy instead of a 18k nib)

 

But for more acqurate informations and things to learn, I am always thankful ^_^

 

And I would more than second a higher variation of colours for the Décimos metli-looks.. like a soft lime green, a pastell-skyblue, a dark, aubergine like violett, or since I am such a big fan of the sesentas, maybe new, not so limited variants with pure black, violett marbles... or a Décimo Raden, would be cool ^_^

 

BTW, anybody knows what happened to the site "custombindes.com"? He produced custom bindes for Standard Caplesses.... *sigh*

It sounds like they're talking about someone who used to make custom VP barrels, but I could be wrong.

No, that is correct.

It was not Ricard Binder, custombindes was a site which produced barrels for Caplesses, Pelikan 100s etc... at customer's whishes.

 

Look up for pictures of Capless bindes on a search engine.

This 14K yellow gold nib was used from the faceted Vanishing Point pens in 1990 to the red Carbonesque in 2003.

This 18K yellow gold nib was used in Japan for the Capless pens with the lacquered enamel body and gold trim (1998 to present).

This alloy nib was only used in Japan for Capless pens with the lacquered enamel body and rhodium trim (2000 to present).

The Carbonesque pens released in Japan had the rhodium-plated 18K gold nibs, as well as the limited Tokyo release of the orange and turquoise (2005), the Decimo (2005), Fermo (2006) and Sesenta (2007).

The first use of the 18K yellow gold in the US was with the slate gray release in 2006. The gun metal gray (2007), yellow (2008) and the newly released brown also have the 18K yellow gold nib.

The first use of the rhodium-plated 18K gold nib in the US was with the limited edition ice blue in 2006. The US LE orange (2007), LE purple (2008) and LE vivid red (2009) also have this nib.
